Redhawks Dominant on Senior Day

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team beat Centenary College on Senior Day by a score of 192.425-187.625. Sophomore Alexis Brawner and Junior Lauren Israel combined to win all five titles.

In the first rotation, the Redhawks scored a 47.500 on vault. Brawner led the way with a 9.725, winning the event. Junior Ashley Thomas came in second on the team with a 9.550. Freshman Allyson Bell and Israel finished with scores of 9.425 and 9.450, respectively. Junior Alexandria Stokes competed in the event for the first time this season and posted a 9.350.

During the second rotation, Southeast scored a solid 48.325 on bars. Israel won the event with a stellar 9.825. Junior Alyssa Tucker came in second on the event with a season-best 9.775. Brawner was the third Redhawk to post a score above a 9.700 with a 9.750. Senior Taylor Penzien finished with a 9.525. Stanley rounded out the top-five with a 9.450. 

On beam, the Redhawks posted a 48.400, marking their second-highest score of the season. Israel finished in first with a 9.775. Freshman McKinzie Jones took second on the team with a 9.750. Brawner and Penzien finished in the third and fourth with scores of 9.650 and 9.625. Tucker closed out the top-five with a 9.600.

On the last rotation, Southeast scored a 48.250 on floor. Brawner won the title with a 9.800. Israel and Jones each placed second with a score of 9.700. Stanley placed fourth, scoring a season-high 9.575. Bell finished with a season-best 9.475.

Ater the meet, the Redhawks honored four student-athletes for Senior Day. Seniors Hayli Huiner and Taylor Penzien, along with juniors Lauren Israel and Alex Stokes, participated in their final regular season meet of their careers. 

"Today's performance was a solid conclusion to our home schedule," said head coach Kristi Ewasko. "Our graduates performed really well as Lauren placed second in the all-around. Taylor really shined on bars and beam, while Alex made her competition debut on vault and floor! I'm really proud of this team for pulling together and competing hard for the graduates! We are looking forward to hosting conference on our home turf in two weeks!

The Redhawks will finish their regular season on Thursday, Mar. 10. They will travel to Ypsilanti, Michigan to take on Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan in a tri meet. It is set to begin at 5:30 p.m., CT.
