CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Southeast Missouri (1-10, 0-1) opened Ohio Valley Conference play with a 7-0 loss to Eastern Illinois (7-4, 1-0) Friday.

Mariya Kostiuk and Anais Emelie played well in doubles, falling in a close match, 7-5, to EIU's Grace Summers and Hannah Kimbrough at the No. 1 position. Mila Majtan and Isabella Krupa paired up at No. 2, losing to Kelly Iden and Ali Foster, 6-3. Viviana Ortiz and Emilia Montenegro (No. 3) closed out doubles action with a 6-3 loss to Srishti Slaria and Kamile Stadalminkaite.

In singles, Kostiuk (No. 1) and Ortiz (No. 6) battled their opponents to a tiebreaker, but fell, 10-6, in each match.. Krupa (No. 2), Majtan (No. 3), Annisa Warasanti (No. 4) and Emelie (No. 5) filled out the remainder of the lineup for Southeast, dropping their matches in straight sets. 

Southeast resumes conference play at SIU Edwardsville Saturday.
