COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team took third place in a tri-meet against Southeastern Conference opponent Missouri and Midwest Independent Conference foe Lindenwood, finishing with a score of 192.600. Sophomore
Alexis Brawner claimed the All-Around title with a career-best 38.975. She posted a score of 9.700 or higher in all four events.
"I am pleased with different individual performances tonight," said head coach
Kristi Ewasko. "Alexis really shined with another strong all-around performance. We have deductions that need to be fixed, and we will focus on those at practice this week.I am looking for this team to start reaching as we head into the second part of the season. Adjustments will need to be made in order to fight for a spot at regionals."
The Redhawks started their night on bars in the first rotation and scored a 48.250. Junior
Lauren Israel and Brawner led the way with a score of 9.700. Senior
Taylor Penzien finished third on the team with a 9.650. Freshman
McKinzie Jones and Junior
Ashley Thomas closed out the top-five with scores of 9.625 and 9.575, respectively.
During the second rotation, Southeast scored a 48.025 on beam. Israel, once again, led the way scoring a season-high with a 9.800. Brawner put up her second score of 9.700 in as many events to place second on the team. Penzien posted a 9.675, while Jones finished with a 9.600. Sophomore
McKenna Stanley rounded out the top-five with a 9.250.
On floor, Southeast scored a 48.600. Three Redhawks scored a 9.750 or better in the event. Brawner and Jones placed first on the team with a score of 9.775. Thomas followed closely behind with a 9.750. Israel (9.675) and Clark (9.625) finished fourth and fifth on the team to close out the third rotation.
The Redhawks finished the meet on vault where they posted a team score of 48.025. Brawner finished her stellar night tying for first for the vault title with a 9.800. Thomas finished second on the team with a 9.675. Israel and Stanley each posted a score of 9.525, while Clark rounded out the event with a 9.500.
Southeast is back in action Feb. 13 in Bowling Green, Ohio. They are set to take on Bowling Green and Eastern Michigan in a tri-meet. The meet will begin at 5 p.m., CT.
