Redhawks Suffer 89-50 Loss to Billikens

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri women's basketball (3-5) fell to Saint Louis University (6-1) on Tuesday 89-50 at the Show Me Center.
 
The Redhawks were held to 26.7 percent shooting from the field on Tuesday. Bri Mitchell guided the Redhawks with 11 points in the game. She's now tied for the team lead with five double-digit point games this season.
 
Ashton Luttrull contributed seven points off the bench while Olivia Hackmann and Iyanna McCurdy added six points each.
 
Mandy Madden pulled in seven rebounds, all on the defensive end of the court.
 
For only the second time this season, the Redhawks were held to a sub-30 percent shooting percentage from beyond the arc. It was the first time in 2016-17 SEMO shot less than 30 percent from the field. At the charity stripe, Southeast recorded its third-straight game of over 70 percent shooting, finishing 13-of-15 from the line.
 
As a team, Southeast committed a season-low 11 turnovers. SEMO entered the contest averaging 18.6 a game. The Redhawks were also called for a season-low 12 fouls in the contest.
 
It was a slow start to the game for both teams but Saint Louis opened an 8-0 lead in the first 5:26 of the game. Hackmann put the Redhawks on the with a 3-pointer at the 3:51 mark. The Billikens ended the quarter on a 9-3 run to hold a 26-11 lead after the opening 10 minutes.
 
Ashton Luttrull turned in five points in the opening quarter for the Redhawks.
 
Southeast was held to a game-low 10 points in the second quarter while the Billikens rattled off 21 to hold a 26-point lead at halftime, 47-21.
 
Mitchell had five points in the second to move into the leading scorer position at halftime with six points. Madden had five of her seven total rebounds in the opening half.
 
The third quarter was the closest of the game as it was decided by only six points with SLU on top 18-12. SEMO's largest run of the game came at six points in the third capped by Mitchell converting a 3-point play to bring the SLU lead to 29, 58-29.
 
Mitchell rounded out her scoring the evening with five points in the third frame.
 
The Redhawks turned in a game-high 17 points in the final 10 minutes. Southeast distributed the ball well in the fourth as six players scored for Southeast, the most of any quarter. McCurdy dropped four of her six total points in the final frame.
 
SLU had three players turn with double-digit points led by a 16-point performance from Sadie Stipanovich. Olivia Jakubicek earned a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Jordyn Frantz finished with 11 points.
 
The Billikens shot 52.2 percent from the field and 34.6 percent from 3-point range.
 
Southeast Missouri will be in action on Sunday, Dec. 4 when Stephens College comes to Cape Girardeau. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m.
