CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. -- The Southeast Missouri women's tennis team opens its spring season on the road this weekend. Southeast visits Illinois State for its opener Friday before heading to the Windy City to take on Chicago State Saturday.
Junior
Annisa Warasanti and sophomores
Mariya Kostiuk,
Emilia Montenegro and
Viviana Ortiz are back for the Redhawks. Kostiuk played in the team's No. 1 position most of last season. Warasanti looks to build on her successful fall season heading into this spring. Newcomers
Mila Majtan, a junior transfer from Coastal Carolina, and freshmen
Ana Canahuate-Torres,
Anais Emelie and
Isabella Krupa set to make their spring debuts.
Southeast is under the direction of first-year head coach
Mary Beth Gunn. Gunn previously coached at Western Illinois before accepting the job at Southeast.
"We've been working hard and I'm excited to see what these ladies will accomplish this season," said Gunn. "Our non-conference schedule will help us prepare for conference play. We are facing tough opponents and I'm looking forward to being tested and to see who can produce on the court."
Southeast faces ISU at 7:30 p.m., CT, and squares off against Chicago State at 2 p.m. Saturday.
