UT MartinHome Sweet HomeSoutheast Missouri (12-8, 5-2 OVC) will begin a three-game homestand when it hosts the back-to-back defending Ohio Valley Conference Champion UT Martin Skyhawks (11-7, 4-1 OVC) on Sunday. The Redhawks and Skyhawks are slated to tip off at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Show Me Center.
Follow the RedhawksSunday's game will also be broadcast live on SEMO ESPN 92.9 FM. Erik Sean will provide play-by-play on the broadcast. Sean will be joined by Jess Bolen, who will provide analysis on the broadcast. Fans can download the SEMO ESPN app to listen to live broadcasts of Redhawks basketball all season long. Series HistorySoutheast Missouri trails in the all-time series 29-32 (18-25 DI) but are 17-15 at home against the Skyhawks. The Redhawks will look to snap a 12-game losing skid to UT Martin. The last time Southeast defeated UT Martin is Feb. 21, 2009 in the Show Me Center, 58-39.
Let's RecapSoutheast Missouri hit the road Wednesday for a matchup with OVC leader SIUE. The Redhawks came up short against the preseason favorites, 80-73. Senior
Erin Bollmann picked up a new career-high 23 points in the contest and fell a rebound short of recording a double-double. The first half remained close as the lead changed a total of 11 times in the first 20 minutes with four ties. Southeast trailed 47-41 at halftime. The Redhawks were able to pull within a couple points of the Cougars a few times in the second half but could never find a lead. Bollmann finished with nine rebounds to complement her 23 points. She hit nine field goals, one 3-pointer, and was 4-of-7 from the line.
Imani Johnson tallied 12 points with five rebounds. She fouled out of the game with 52 seconds to play. The Redhawks were able to hold the OVC's leading scorer Shronda Butts to 12 points Wednesday, the least amount she has tallied in OVC play this season.
Looking at the UT Martin SkyhawksUT Martin defeated Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State last week. The Skyhawks are 27-4 in the month of January since the 2012-13 season. Freshman DaiJia Ruffin recorded eight points and five rebounds in the win over Tennessee Tech. She followed that up with 13 points, six rebounds, five assists and four steals off the bench at Jacksonville State. Ruffin has scored in double-figures in 14 of the team's 17 games this season.The Skyhawks earned their four consecutive win on Wednesday at Eastern Illinois, 65-39. Haley Howard put up 15 points to lead the Skyhawk offense. In their last 37 OVC games, the Skyhawks are an impressive 35-2. UT Martin won the 2014-15 OVC Championship after going a perfect 16-0 in league play. Last year's Skyhawks became just the sixth team in OVC history to finish the conference season unbeaten.
Looking AheadThe Redhawks will take about a week off from competition before welcoming Austin Peay to Cape on Saturday Jan. 30. The Redhawks and Lady Govs are set to tipoff at 2 p.m. from the Show Me Center next Saturday. Southeast will close its three-game homestand to start the month of February on Feb. 3 against Murray State.

Wallace Joins Staff as Graduate AssistantFormer Baylor University guard
Cherrish Wallace has joined the Southeast Missouri women's basketball coaching staff as the graduate assistant. Wallace, a Pasadena, California, native, initially suffered a stress fracture in her leg 11 games into her freshman season at Baylor (2008-09). Her leg never fully recovered and she went on to become the student assistant coach for the Lady Bears.
Boll-ing Through OpponentsErin Bollmann became the first Redhawk this season to put up back-to-back 20-point games on Wednesday. In just two games, Bollmann has raised her scoring average by nearly four points a game in OVC play. Bollmann currently averages 12.4 points per game with 6.1 rebounds in league play.
King of the Block PartySenior
Connor King currently has 53 blocks in her time as a Redhawk. King needs three more blocks to tie 56 (Pat Colon, 1982-87) and crack the career top-10 blocks list. The record of 115 is held by Vera Roberts (1986-90). King is tied for the team lead with 18 this season.
That Was a Close OneThe Redhawks are no strangers to close games this season. Southeast won its first one-possession game in last Saturday's come-from-behind thriller at Tennessee Tech, 60-57. The Redhawks lost a pair of games by one-point against Idaho State and at Eastern Kentucky. The Redhawks are 3-2 in games decided by five points or less; 4-4 in 10 points or less.
It's Not Over Till It's OverSoutheast has come back to win five games when trailing at halftime this season. The Redhawks have erased deficits of 10 or more points to come back and win in three games.
The West: The Land of OpportunityIf the OVC Tournament started this week, five of the six West teams in the league would attend the eight-team postseason tournament in Nashville. The top-three teams leading the OVC are all West institutions (SIUE, UT Martin, Southeast Missouri). The OVC currently features a four-way tie for fourth with teams tied at 4-2; Austin Peay included in the tie.
Stepping UpBri Mitchell has come in and has more than taken over a vacancy in the Redhawk lineup left open by
Olivia Hackmann. Mitchell ranks 12th in league-only games with 14.7 points per game. On the season, Mitchell has 59 assists, 14 steals, shoots 31% from the field, and 79% from the free-throw line. Mitchell also averages the most minutes of all active players with 30.3 minutes per game. Mitchell has scored 10 or more points in 10 of her last 12 games.
What's My Age Again?Southeast Missouri has had strong performances this season from three notable freshmen. Point guard
Adrianna Murphy at started 16 of the 20 games she's played in, averages six points, 4.5 rebounds, five assists, and 1.9 steals a game.
Imani Johnson averages 9.6 points in 19 games off the bench this season, earning double-digit points in 11 of those games. Most recently,
Corneisha Henderson has provided a spark off the bench in OVC play.
Against the LeagueOf the 21 statistical categories listed on the OVC website for league-only games, the Redhawks rank in the top half in 17 and the top four in nine. Most notably, the Redhawks rank third in field goal percentage defense (.382), third with a 3.1 rebounding margin, and third in steals (8.0 SPG).
There's No Place Like HomeSoutheast is 6-2 in the Show Me Center this season. In home games, Southeast averages 74.1 points a game, 8.5 more than its opponents. Southeast shoots .432 on the Show Me Center floor. Southeast's six home wins matches the home win total from a season ago.
