Redhawks Post Season-High 193.225 in Win Over Centenary

The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team came out with a strong performance Friday night against Midwest Independent Conference foe Centenary College. The Redhawks recorded a season-best 193.225 on their way to the win.Sophomore Alexis Brawner led the squad with a career-high 38.900 all-around score, which was the highest of the evening.

"This team has once again continued to climb," exclaimed head coach Kristi Ewasko. "We had mistakes but each person had their teammate's back and really came through with strong performances! We are excited for the opportunity to immediately builld on and improve from tonight by competing at Texas Woman's on Sunday! This team continues to show that they're fighters and are giving themselves every chance to score higher each meet!"

 
The Redhawks won the first rotation 48.425-47.350. They had a solid performance on bars with three athletes scoring a 9.700 or better. Sophomore McKenna Stanley led the way, winning a share of the bars title and tying a season-best score of 9.775. Brawner also set a new season-high with a 9.725.

Southeast won the second rotation as the squad scored a 47.675 on vault. Brawner claimed the event title with a score of 9.775. Junior Ashley Thomas tied for third with a 9.550.

After the third rotation, the Redhawks increased their overall lead, significantly, after a strong performance on floor. Freshman McKinzie Jones accumulated her third score of 9.800 or higher on floor this season scoring a 9.825, winning her the floor title for the second time in three meets. Brawner continued a great night by scoring a season-best 9.800. Thomas and junior Lauren Israel also posted good scores with a 9.725 and 9.700, respectively.

Southeast finished strong in the fourth rotation, which led to a season-high team score of 193.225. Israel won a share of the beam title with a season-best score of 9.725. The other four Redhawks each posted a 9.650 or higher to give the squad a season-high 48.350 on beam.

"Alexis Brawner really stepped into her own tonight, as well as each individual event winner to help bring home the meet," Ewasko added. "Now everyone is looking forward to a quick recovery and turnaround for Sunday!" 

The Redhawks are back in action on Sunday when they take on Texas Woman's, Air Force and Centenary in a quad meet. The meet will start at 1:00 p.m. from Denton, Texas.
