CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Following the opening day of the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Southeast Missouri men's and women's squads are leading both team competitions. The men's team recorded 75 points while the women's unit notched 38.5 points.
Shon Kyle defended his discus title with a throw of 174'10" (53.30m) while Christian Locke won the pole vault by clearning 15'11" (4.85m).
Chris Navarro leads the decathlon with 3,540 points midway through the competition. He won the 100-meter dash in 11.19 seconds and long jump by covering 22'7¼" (6.89m). Navarro added second-place finishes in the shot put with a toss of 39'3¾" (11.98m) and in the 400-meter dash in 52.94 seconds.
Blake Smith finished second in the long jump with a school record leap of 25'8" (7.82m). Smith won the 100-meter dash prelims with a time of 10.25 seconds. Kayla Gutierrez was second in the discus with a throw of 160'10" (49.02m). Reggie Miller placed second in the high jump by clearing 6'8¼" (2.04m). Mary Dohogne was second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, finishing in 11:03.43.
Gloria Westlake placed third in the 10,000-meter run in 37:05.06.
Jason Walker finished fourth in the javelin with a throw of 172'8" (52.64m). Blake Carter was fourth in the long jump by covering 24'5½" (7.45m). Carter also qualified in the 100-meter dash prelims, finishing in 10.82 seconds.
Jessica Brown earned a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 19'8¼" (6.00m). Jacob Kent was also fifth in the long jump, covering 23'10¾" (7.28m).
Abi Sowash finished sixth in the high jump by clearing 5'3¼" (1.61m).
The final day of the meet begins at 8 a.m. CT Saturday from Governors Stadium.
