Men Finish Second, Women Fourth at OVC Championships

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Southeast Missouri men finished second with 216 points and the women placed fourth with 105½ points at the Ohio Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.
Eastern Illinois won the men's team championship with 233½ points while Tennessee State claimed the title with 128½ points, besting SIU Edwardsville by 1½ points.
Blake Smith won the 100-meter dash in 10.25 seconds, which is one-hundredth of a second short of the school record and fastest time of his career.
Chris Navarro won the decathlon with 5,116 points by winning the 110-meter hurdles in 14.80 seconds and taking third in the discus with a throw of 94'4" (28.76m) and third in the pole vault by clearing 14'1¼" (4.30m). He also won the individual 110-meter hurdles in 14.57 seconds.
Shon Kyle successfully defended his shot put title with a throw of 50'11"(15.52m). He placed third in the hammer throw with a toss of 170'11" (52.11m).
Reggie Miller won the triple jump with a leap of 50'11" (15.52m). Chris Martin finished third in the event with a jump of 49'7" (15.11m).
Kayla Gutierrez won the women's shot put with a throw of 48'8¼" (14.84m). She was second in the hammer throw at 182'6" (55.64m). Sarah Hall was second in the shot put at 46' (14.17m).
Mike Peters finished second in the 400-meter hurdles in 52.74 seconds and third in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.78 seconds.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team of Smith, Blake Carter, Jarred Pasley and Martin placed second in 41.10 seconds.
Taylor Coffelt was second in the women's heptathlon with 4,849 points while Macy Ritter finished fifth with 4,459 points. Coffelt won the javelin with a throw of 114' (34.75m), finished second in the 800-meter run in 2:32.12 and third in the long jump by covering 17'9" (5.41m) on Saturday. She finished fourth in the individual javelin with a toss of 116'7" (35.54m).
Pasley earned a third-place medal in the 400-meter dash in 47.88 seconds. Brandon Chunn finished fourth in 48.62 seconds.
Tyler Holmes placed third in the 800-meter run, finishing in 1:52.14.
Marc Maton was fifth in the 1,500-meter run, crossing the finish line in 3:52.84. Cheynne Tunti was fifth in the women's 400-meter dash in 55.51 seconds. Alyssa Rebecca finished sixth in the women's 1,500-meter race in 4:35.36.
Several Redhawks have qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round (formerly NCAA West Regional) scheduled for May 28-30 at the University of Texas in Austin.
