Redhawk RundownÂ
Let the OVC Season BeginThe Southeast Missouri baseball team will open the 2015 Ohio Valley Conference portion of their schedule against Eastern Kentucky this weekend. Both teams begin OVC play with four wins on the season. Winter weather has once again forced Southeast to move a home series to a neutral location. The Redhawks and Colonels will battle on the campus of SIUE in Edwardsville, Illinois. The series will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. Game two will be Sunday at 2 p.m. and the finale will be Monday at 1 p.m. The series can be heard on SEMO ESPN 1220 AM.
Â
Let's ReviewSoutheast took on Bradley University a week ago in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Redhawks lost two of three to the Braves. Southeast fell in game one, 6-3. Southeast snapped a four-game losing skid with a 7-2 win in game two of the series but were shutout in game three, 5-0. Freshman
Trevor Ezell hit an impressive .600 on the week. He scored three run with an RBI against the Braves.
Ryan Rippee drove in eight RBI on the weekend. He hit two home runs with a double and slugged .909.
Travis Hayes picked up his second win of the season in game two. He pitched seven innings while allowing two runs (one unearned). He struck out six and walked two.
Â
Winter Weather WoesSoutheast has now been forced to move three home series to neutral locations in 2015. Winter weather has wreaked havoc with the Redhawks' schedule this season. Southeast was originally scheduled to play 14 of 15 game at home to start the season but they have played only three (Feb. 13-14; vs. Bowling Green). Road games at Arkansas State and Saint Louis were also postponed.
Â
A Year AgoA year ago, the Redhawks entered OVC play on a four-game losing streak but started out conference play hot going 6-0 against Belmont and Eastern Kentucky. After being swept by Memphis, the Redhawks would only lose one more series the remainder of the season.
Â
Looking AheadSoutheast Missouri will makeup their road game at Saint Louis on March 10 in the Gateway City. The game is slated to be played at Billiken Sports Complex at 3 p.m. Should SLU's home field be unplayable, the game will be moved to GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Illinois at 5 p.m. Southeast will continue OVC play at Morehead State Mar. 13-15 to kick off Spring Break.
Â
