MOREHEAD, Ky. — The Southeast Missouri and Morehead State soccer teams played to a 2-2 draw Thursday evening after a double overtime affair.
Southeast is now 3-2-3 in Ohio Valley Conference play and 8-5-4 overall. The Eagles are now 4-3-2 in OVC play and 7-8-2 overall.
With four ties on the season, it's the most the Redhawks have had since the 2012 season. Three ties in league play ties a program record set in 2009.
Angie Mann scored her eighth goal of the season on a penalty kick in the 17th minute of the match, putting the Redhawks up, 1-0. It was Mann's second penalty kick this season.
The 1-0 score would stand for the remainder of the first half.
Southeast held the Eagles to only a single shot in the opening half while putting five up, all of which were on goal.
Lauren Kaempfe led the Redhawks with two shots in the half.
The Eagles offense came out firing in the second half, putting up 11 shots.
Morehead's Abby Timm tied the match at one goal apiece just 32 seconds into the second half. Dani Wilson fed Timm from about 40 yards out. Timm beat the defense on the run to knock it past
Kindra Lierz to tie the match, 1-1.
15 minutes later, Timm and Wilson changed rolls as Wilson scored her seventh goal of the season. Timm assisted on Wilson's goal to make it 2-1 over the Redhawks.
Kaempfe scored her second goal in her second straight game to retie the match at 2-2.
Paige Luehmann passed in to Kaempfe who headed it in to tie the match.
The 2-2 tie would stand to force overtime.
Offense was scarce in both overtime periods as the 2-2 tie would hold to the final horn.
The Redhawks were outshot, 13-11, in the match. 10 of Southeast's 11 shots were put on goal.
Kaepmfe led the Redhawks with four shots, all of which were on goal.
Kaitlin Kuznacic had two shots in the match.
Lierz (7-5-4) played the entire 110 minutes in goal. She allowed both goals to the Eagles and made five saves in the match.
Kaitlynn Murphy also played the entire match in goal for Morehead. Murphy allowed both goals and made eight saves.
The Redhawks will return home on Sunday for a 1 p.m. match against Tennessee Tech. The Redhawks will celebrate four seniors prior to the match.
