Melissa Martin kept her singles winning streak alive when she won the only point in Southeast Missouri's 6-1 loss to Murray State Saturday afternoon in Ohio Valley Conference action at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
The loss dropped Southeast to 9-12 overall and 3-6 in the OVC, ending the Redhawks chances of making the league's postseason tournament. MSU improved to 13-5 and 8-1 in the conference.
Martin won her sixth-straight singles match and improved to 8-1 in her last nine. She defeated Erin Patton, 6-2, 7-5, at the No. 6 position. Southeast lost in straight sets at the No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 5 spots. The matchup between Megan Blue and
Heather Robinson at No. 4 was retired.
In doubles, Andrea Eskauriatza/Patton defeated Martin/
Valeriia Nagovitcina, 8-1, at No. 2 and Blue/Carla Suga beat
Annisa Warasanti/
Katy Brady, 8-0, at No. 3.
Southeast will look to end a seven-match losing streak when it hosts Austin Peay in its season finale Sunday. Start time is Noon, CT.
