CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (9-10, 3-5) plays its final three matches of the regular season at home this weekend.
The Redhawks play host to NCAA Division II foe Northeastern State (16-4) Friday, before concluding Ohio Valley Conference play against Murray State (12-5, 7-1) Saturday and Austin Peay (5-12, 2-6) Sunday. All three contests are slated for Noon, CT, at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
Northeastern State comes to Cape Girardeau ranked No. 31 in the nation and third in the NCAA Central Region. The RiverHawks, from Tahlequah, Okla., are on an 11-match winning streak. NSU is led by Kristina Savchenkov who boasts a 14-4 record at the No. 1 singles spot. The RiverHawks are first in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
After its last non-conference bout Friday, Southeast hits the final leg of its OVC season. The Redhawks, who are jockeying for one of the remaining three spots in this year's OVC Tournament, are presently eighth in the standings. Southeast is battling with Jacksonville State, SIU Edwardsville, Eastern Illinois and UT Martin for one of those berths. As of now, Eastern Kentucky, Murray State and Morehead State are in.
Southeast is looking to snap a season-long five-match losing skid. The Redhawks last won on Mar. 22 when they edged Morehead State, 4-3, in Cape Girardeau. Southeast has dropped each of its last three contests by identical 5-2 scores and won its points at the No. 1 and No. 6 singles positions during that stretch.
