PDF VersionPINE BLUFF, Ark. - Southeast Missouri (5-5) ended a three-match losing streak with its first shutout of the season, a 7-0 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff (4-3) Sunday.
Southeast won in straight sets in five of its six singles matches.
Valeriia Kashina defeated Elizabeth Perez-Rodriguez, 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8) in a tiebreaker at the No. 1 position. Five more victories came after that.
Valeriia Nagovitcina beat Maria Cabane, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 2;
Ekaterina Donetckova defeated Monica Arcos, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 3;
Annisa Warasanti took care of Khadijah Kenyatte, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 4;
Melissa Martin downed Fabiola Cardoso, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5; and
Katy Brady earned her first career win with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Destiny Jones at No. 6.
The Redhawks completed their shutout with three wins in doubles play. Kashina/Donetckova defeated Perez-Rodriuez/Arcos, 8-3, at the top of the lineup. Martin teamed up with
Heather Robinson to upend Cabane/Cardoso, 8-5, at No. 2, and Warasanti/Nagovitcina blanked Kenyatte/Jones, 8-0, at No. 3.
"This match showed that we are capable of being consistent and focused," said Southeast head coach
Leah Hottois.
Southeast, which surpassed its win total from last season, hosts Western Illinois in its first home match on Mar. 11. Start time is 2 p.m., CT, at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.
