Senior Day at Show Me Center Awaits Gymnastics

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team hosts its regular season finale Sunday at the Show Me Center. The meet not only features the first meet in the Show Me Center since 2010, but also will celebrate the careers of the Redhawks five seniors.
 
Midwest Independent Conference opponent Illinois State travels to Southeast as the two squads compete in preparation for the MIC Championships on March 22. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
 
About Illinois State – Illinois State enters the weekend with a 191.320 regional qualifying average. Samantha King owns the top all-around average with a 38.725 for the Redbirds. She has the top score vault, bars and beam with 9.721, 9.750 and 9.794, respectively. Sarah Fisher has the top score on the floor exercise with a 9.722.
 
In the Redbirds last meet, King won the all-around with a 39.200 as Illinois State bested Penn 193.325-191.450. The 193.325 was a season high including a 48.425 on the balance beam.
 
Last Meet –  The Redhawks had to adapt quickly as senior Taryn Vanderpool was held out for safety precautions after falling awkwardly  in warm ups. Southeast outperformed Michigan State on the vault, scoring a 48.775 and held solid scores on the bars with a 48.800 and floor with a 48.525. The lone fault was on the beam, scoring a 47.525 with a pair of falls.
 
Senior Megan Fosnow claimed the event title on the bars with a 9.825 while Taylor Penzien had a pair of 9.775's on the bars and beam.
 
First Touch:
 
Senior Day Sunday: The Redhawks will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday in the final meet of the regular season. Erin Brady, Megan Fosnow, Samantha Marrero, Kimmie Pickerl and Taryn Vanderpool will all be honored prior to the meet with Illinois State.
 
Six Out of Seven: Southeast has beat six out of its last seven opponents, with the lone fault coming against Michigan State. The Redhawks had won six-straight dating back to Jan. 31. The Redhawks have a perfect record against Midwest Independent Conference schools this year.
 
Who 2 Watch 4: Megan Fosnow claimed the event title on the uneven bars in a dual at Centenary with a 9.850 and followed with a 9.750 on the floor exercise for a second-place finish. She also finished in second place on the vault with a 9.700. With a day between meets, Fosnow had a strong showing against Texas Woman's and Centenary on Sunday. She scored a 9.725 on the vault and a 9.800 on the uneven bars.     
 
Add a Top-10 Bars Routine: Southeast had a top-10 bars routine in its Feb. 23 meet at Texas Woman's. The Redhawks scored a 48.950, which is the ninth-best bars score in school history.
 
Now That's a Vault: The Redhawks scored its second-highest total in school history on the vault on Feb. 9 against UIC and Alaska. The tandem of Tucker, Thomas, Hamilton, Vanderpool, Fosnow and Walker scored a 48.975, which is second all-time only to a 49.000 set Feb. 18, 1995 against Seattle Pacific.
 
Trying to Head Back to the Regional – Taryn Vanderpool had a breakout junior season that saw her advance to the regional meet in Norman, Okla., a year ago. The senior will be poised to make another regional run after posting a 12th place finish. Hoping to join her will be 2012 qualifier Megan Fosnow. The then-sophomore competed in the all-around.
