CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (8-5, 2-0) hosts Morehead State (5-8, 2-0) and Eastern Kentucky (6-7, 2-0) in Ohio Valley Conference action this weekend. The Redhawks square off against the Eagles at 1 p.m., CT, Saturday before hooking up with the league-leading Colonels at 10 a.m. Sunday.
Southeast has won four-straight matches and leads the OVC with eight victories this season.
Freshman
Valeriia Kashina, this week's OVC Athlete of the Week, carries a five-match winning streak into the weekend. Kashina is 7-6 in dual singles play at the No. 1 position this season. She has not dropped a set in each of her last three contests. Additionally, Kashina and
Ekaterina Donetckova are 7-3 at No. 1 doubles. That record is second-best in the OVC this year.
Melissa Martin, like Kashina, is also on a five-match winning streak. Martin did not lose a set in all of those victories. She is 7-4 in singles play between the No. 5 (2-0) and No. 6 spots (5-4).
Valeriia Nagovitcina has given Southeast a big lift, as well. Nagovitcina owns a four-match winning streak at No. 2 singles and is 8-2 in her last 10 bouts. She ranks second on the team with 10 wins.
Southeast has shutout three of its last four opponents. The Redhawks eight wins are their most in a season since 2006-07.
