Gymnasts Travel to MIC Championships Saturday

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team begins postseason action Saturday at the Midwest Independent Conference Championships. The Redhawks enter the meet after posting a season-high score of 195.025 in a dual with Illinois State on March 11.
 
Southeast has a 193.835 regional qualifying average, ranking third in the MIC behind Texas Woman's (194.010) and UIC (193.980). The Redhawks have posted victories over every MIC squad this season.
 
About Centenary – The Ladies own a 189.500 regional qualifying average after posting their highest score of the year in its regular-season finale. Centenary posted a 191.050 on March 15. Robyn Price has a 38.245 average in the all-around, owning the top average in three events. She has a 9.705 on the vault, a 9.580 on the bars and a 9.705 on the beam. Stephanie Strickler owns the squads top average on the floor with a 9.735.
 
About Illinois State - Illinois State enters the MIC Championship with a 192.055 regional qualifying average and are led by Samantha King with a 38.630 all-around score. King has the top vault average with a 9.710 and top beam score with a 9.800. Jenna Bossle has the top bars routine with a 9.800 while Sarah Fisher has a 9.745 on the floor.
 
About Lindenwood - Lindenwood has a 192.175 regional qualifying average and enter the meet having won two of its last three meets. Emily Turik is the only Lady Lion that qualifies in the all-around with a 38.355. Rachel Zabawa has the top vault and floor average with a 9.810 and 9.790, respectively. Courtney Heise owns the top bars average with a 9.805 while Alicia Floyd has the best beam average at 9.735.
 
About Texas Woman's - The Pioneers enter as the statistical favorite with a 194.010 average after having scored a 194.250 or better in their last three meets. TWU is coming off its top road score of the season with a 194.575 at Arizona on March 15. Bethany Larimer has the top vault average with a 9.830 while Brittainy Johnson has a 9.805 on the bars.
 
About University of Illinois-Chicago - UIC enters with a 193.980 average, which is second-best in the MIC. The Flames have three entrants that qualify for the all-around with Catherine Dion leading the charge with a 39.300. That is the 20th-best mark in the nation. She owns the Flames top averages on the bars (9.855), beam (9.845) and floor (9.840). Kimberly Randall has the top vault average with a 9.820.
 
Last Meet –  The Redhawks completed a perfect regular season against Midwest Indepenent Conference foes with a 195.025-192.425 victory over Illinois State. The Redhawks scored season-highs on the bars (49.025), beam (48.375) and floor (49.025) while Megan Fosnow posted the sixth-best vault in school history with a 9.875. Fosnow won both the vault and floor exercise.
 
Alyssa Tucker took first place on the balance beam with a personal-best 9.875. Taylor Penzien finished second on the uneven bars with a career-best 9.825.
 
Seven Out of Eight: Southeast has beaten seven out of its last eight opponents, with the lone fault coming against Michigan State. In that span, the Redhawks have defeated all five MIC foes including defeating Centenary twice.                                   
 
Add a Top-10 Bars Routine: Southeast had a top-10 bars routine in its Feb. 23 meet at Texas Woman's. The Redhawks scored a 48.950, which is the ninth-best bars score in school history.
 
Fosnow Honored by MIC in Week 9 - Senior Megan Fosnow was named the MIC Specialist of the Week after picking up three event wins over the weekend. She won the uneven bars with a 9.825 against Michigan State then won the vault and floor with a pair of 9.875's agains I
 
Walker Named Top Specialist in MIC in Week 5 - Freshman Bailey Walker was named the MIC Specialist of the week after her performance on the floor at Missouri and at home against UIC.
 
Vanderpool Named Top Gymnast in MIC in Week 2 – Senior Taryn Vanderpool was named the Midwest Independent Conference Gymnast of the Week after her performance at Penn State.
 
Now That's a Vault: The Redhawks scored its second-highest total in school history on the vault on Feb. 9 against UIC and Alaska. The tandem of Tucker, Thomas, Hamilton, Vanderpool, Fosnow and Walker scored a 48.975, which is second all-time only to a 49.000 set Feb. 18, 1995 against Seattle Pacific.
