Southeast Opens OVC Play This Weekend

Southeast opens OVC play at Belmont and Tennessee State this weekend
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri women's tennis team looks to continue its winning ways when it opens Ohio Valley Conference play this weekend. The Redhawks visit Belmont (2-3) Saturday and Tennessee State (0-2) Sunday.

Southeast is 6-5 this season and enters the weekend on a two-match winning streak. The Redhawks beat Arkansas-Pine Bluff (Mar. 9) and Western Illinois (Mar. 11) in their last two contests, posting back-to-back shutouts for the first time since 2006-07.

The Redhawks are looking to open OVC play with a win for the first time since 2005-06. That year, Southeast beat Tennessee State, 7-0, on Mar. 5. The Redhawks have not lost to TSU since 2001 and are 18-2 all-time against the Tigers.

Melissa Martin and Valeriia Kashina are on winning streaks of three or more matches in singles play. Martin won each of her last four bouts, while Kashina looks to extend her three-match winning streak at the top of Southeast's lineup.

In doubles, Martin/Heather Robinson and Valeriia Nagovitcina/Annisa Warasanti were victorious in each of their last two matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, respectively.

Another win will give the Redhawks seven victories this season, their most since 2006-07 (11-14).
