PDF Box ScoreCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri women's basketball team used a come-from-behind effort to defeat Murray State in the season finale Saturday at the Show Me Center.
The Redhawks (10-19, 6-10 OVC) scored 35 second-half points to win 65-57, sending out seniors
Patricia Mack and
Jordan Hunter with a victory. With the win, Southeast claimed its sixth conference win, the most since winning 10 games in 2008-09.
In the game, senior Mack notched her ninth double-double of the season with 11 points and 16 rebounds while
Olivia Hackmann fell just shy of a career-high with 16 points.
The Redhawks fell down by nine points with 16:31 remaining in the game and steadily climbed back into the game, taking their first lead of the second half on a jumper from
Brianna Mitchell. Her shot in the paint gave Southeast a 49-48 lead with 12:33 remaining.
However, Murray State (11-17, 4-12 OVC) went on a 5-0 run, charged by a 3-point basket from Jashae Lee and a pair of free throws from Jessica Winfrey.
The Redhawks made their final push as a pair of free throws from Mack tied the game then gave a one-point lead with 6:14 remaining at 56-55.
Southeast would not relinquish the lead, going on an 11-0 run to build a 10-point lead with 1:26 remaining. The Racers would just hit a pair of free throws in the closing seconds, leading to the 65-57 Redhawks victory.
Southeast built an 18-10 lead with 11:36 remaining in the first half as
Kenyada Brown scored on a layup. But the Racers went on a 9-1 run to knot the game at 19-19.
The Redhawks briefly regained the lead on a jumper from
Jordan Hunter but the Racers were able to built a five-point lead at 26-21 with 5:33 remaining and entered the intermission break with a 34-30 lead.
Southeast outrebounded Murray State 47-38, led by Mack's 16 boards.
Connor King also reached double-digit rebounds with 12, just missing on a double-double with nine points.
The Racers were led by Jessica Winfrey with 22 points and 20 rebounds.
With the Redhawks season coming to a close, the careers of
Jordan Hunter and
Patricia Mack come to an end at Southeast Missouri State, both having left their marks on the program, leaving it in a better place than when they came.
Mack ranks third all-time with 865 rebounds in her career and holds two single-season records as she grabbed 270 boards last season and 300 this year.
