INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Southeast Missouri (2-2) opened a three-match weekend road trip with a 5-2 victory over Butler University (1-4) Saturday morning.
Southeast, which entered the weekend at 0-8 in dual doubles play, secured its first point of the season with wins in all three positions.
"Our doubles showed great improvement," said Redhawks head coach
Leah Hottois. "All three teams were aggressive and played to win."
Valeriia Kashina and Ekaterina Donetskova defeated Stephanie McLoughlin and Kailey Eaton, 6-2, at No. 1.
Heather Robinson and
Melissa Martin then blanked Konstantina Adami and Angelina Quin, 6-0, at No. 2.
Valeriia Nagovitcina and
Annisa Warasanti completed the sweep with a 6-2 victory over Grace Hyde and Jocelyn Koester at No. 3.
The Redhawks added four more points from the No. 2, No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 spots in their singles lineup.
Nagovitcina defeated Adami, 6-2, 6-2, and Donetskova beat Eaton, 6-4, 6-3, in straight sets. Robinson and Warasanti followed with come-from-behind wins. Robinson and Warasanti each dropped their first set before rallying to force a tiebreaker en route to victory. Robinson upended Quin, 1-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-8), while Warasanti got by Hyde, 0-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) in the No. 3 and No. 4 positions, respectively.
Southeast returns to action early Saturday morning when it faces IUPUI at 8 a.m., CT.
