DENOTN, Texas – The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team scored a season-high 194.300 to win a triangular meet against a pair of Midwest Independent Conference foes Sunday afternoon.

The Redhawks claimed two individual event wins and the all-around champion while posting the ninth-best score in school history on the uneven bars.

"I am really pleased with this team tonight," Southeast head coach Kristi Ewasko said. "We talked about not holding on to past meets, about being in and enjoying the moment.

"I really feel like the team did that tonight and I am really proud of them."

Southeast beat fellow MIC schools Texas Woman's and Centenary who scored 193.825 and 190.435, respectively. It was also the second time in three days that the Redhawks have defeated Centenary after claiming a dual victory on Friday.

The Redhawks began the first rotation on the uneven bars where they promptly scored a 48.950, a mark that ties as ninth best in school history.

Freshman Alyssa Tucker tied for the event win with a 9.825. She was joined by a pair from Texas Woman's, Courtney Cochefski and Katie Simpson, at the top of the podium.

Senior Megan Fosnow scored a 9.800 while freshman Lauren Israel posted a personal-best with a 9.775. Sophomore Taylor Penzien and senior Taryn Vanderpool also scored a 9.775.

The second rotation led the Redhawks to the balance beam, which has been an event that has been a work in progress throughout the season. Today, Southeast posted its second-best score of the season with a 47.850.

"Tonight was a great step," Ewasko said. "We made a lot of lineup changes. We had Erin (Brady) step in as a senior and really take hold. After a fall, she brought the team back up.

"The freshmen really did their job tonight. They really showed the potential is there and continue to put it together."

One of those freshmen was Lauren Israel who was the top finisher for the Redhawks, with a season-best 9.775, finishing in a tie for second place.

Freshman Ashley Thomas also scored a personal-best with a 9.725.

Brady was the Redhawks second competitor on the event and scored a 9.475 after the first gymnast for Southeast had a fall.

After two events, Texas Woman's held a slight lead at 97.100-96.800 over the Redhawks. Centenary had a 95.700 midway through the meet.

The third rotation took Southeast to the floor exercise where it scored a 48.875. Freshman Chelsi Hamilton and Tucker tied for third place with each scoring a 9.800. Thomas and Vanderpool also had strong scores with each scoring a 9.775.

The final rotation took the Redhawks to the vault, one of their strongest events on the season.

Thomas won the event with a 9.775 while Vanderpool claimed third place with a 9.750. Fosnow earned a 9.725 while Hamilton received a 9.700 as the squad posted a 48.625.

Tucker earned all-around champion with a 38.850, edging Friday's event champion Robyn Price of Centenary, who had a 38.275.

Southeast has seven scores that set or tied personal bests as the Redhawks now going into a bye week before competing against Michigan State on March 7.

"This meet was a great time to focus on the little things and we built some confidence," Ewasko said. "We'll have an intersquad meet next week to keep them in competition form.

"But we built some confidence moving forward."

The meet with Michigan State is at Houck Field House at 6:30 p.m. while the following meet on March 9 against Illinois State is at 1 p.m. and in the Show Me Center.
