Photo GalleryCAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri's defense held an opponent under 40 points for the first time since 2010 as the Redhawks opened the season with a 66-38 victory over Alabama A&M on Friday evening.
Olivia Hackmann scored a career-best and game-high 19 points to go along with eight rebounds and four steals while
Erin Bollmann added a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds in her NCAA debut.

"I thought we did a great job on the defensive end," acting head coach
Heather Ezell said. "We were able to execute what we do well and we played as a team in all phases."

The Redhawks defense held Alabama A&M to a 22.2% (14-for-63) shooting percentage for the game, including 5.6% (1-for-18) from beyond the arc. Southeast last held an opponent under 40 points in a 55-37 defeat of Jackson State on Nov. 13, 2010.

Southeast opened the game on a 6-0 run over the first 2:24 and never looked back. The Redhawks added another 12-0 run later in the half and went to intermission with a 35-22 advantage.

In the second half, Southeast dominated as they outscored the Bulldogs 31-16 while A&M was limited to a 20.6% (7-for-34) shooting percentage. Southeast shot 41.9% (13-for-31) in the second half and 35.9% (28-for-78) for the game.

Jasmine Robinson scored eight points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out three assists in her Southeast debut.
Brianna Mitchell also scored eight points while
Yelena Rosado scored seven points with a game-high five assists.
Deja Jones added six points in her first collegiate game while
Ashton Luttrull and
Hannah Noe both drained three-pointers in their debuts.

Southeast travels to Missouri on Monday for a 7 p.m. tip in Columbia. The Redhawks will return home on Friday, Nov. 21 to face Saint Louis in a game that will feature $1 admission for all fans.
