CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Utilizing a fast start and a season-high 19 points for Jordan Hunter, the Southeast Missouri women's basketball team picked up its first Ohio Valley Conference victory of the year over Austin Peay Saturday in Clarksville, Tenn.

The Redhawks improve to 5-10 overall and 1-1 in OVC action. The Lady Govs slip to 3-11 overall and 0-1 in the loop.

Southeast jumped out of the gates, knocking in six first-half 3-point baskets. Hunter, who was unable to find the bottom of the net against Belmont on Tuesday, knocked in the games first two buckets, both from long range.

The Redhawks continued to pour it on early, building a 12-point lead with 13:38 remaining in the first stanza. Olivia Hackmann played a major part in that lead as she made four of her first five shots. She checked into the game with Southeast holding a five-point advantage and promptly hit a trey and added a jumper. Connor King knocked in a layup to give the Redhawks an 18-6 lead.

"That is something (a quick start) that we have really been preaching on this last week," Southeast head coach Ty Margenthaler said. "I was really proud with how we really started shooting the ball well."

Southeast would continue to play with the lead that would hover around ten points until a dry spell lasting nearly three minutes allowed the Lady Govs to go on a 10-2 run to close out the first half. The Redhawks were unable to find the rim from 4:21 remaining until a Kara Wright Jumper went through the net with 1:33 remaining.

However, the Redhawks would enter the intermission with a 36-35 lead, led by Hackmann's 13 points while Hunter added 10.

Tearra Banks made the opening basket of the second half to give Austin Peay its first lead in the game. However, Hunter continued her hot night, scoring on a layup and retaking the lead that the Redhawks would not relinquish.

With 8:02 remaining in the half, Alexis Hardaway hit a layup to pull the Lady Govs within three points at 55-52. Southeast would then use a 7-0 run to rebuild a cushion that it could use to cruise to victory.

Allyson Bradshaw had the bookends on the run, first hitting a pair of free throws, then notching a 3-point basket with 6:23 remaining to give Southeast a 62-52 lead. Connor King scored on a layup for the middle basket.

Hitting a total of 10 of its final 14 shots from the charity stripe, the Redhawks prevailed 75-64.

Hunter finished with a game and season high of 19 points while adding six rebounds.

"That was one of Jordan's best games," Margenthaler said. "She really played well on both ends. We really need Jordan Hunter to play like this the rest of the way. When she plays like his, good things happen to this team."

Hackmann added 13 points while Bradshaw had 11 points to round out the Redhawks in double figures. Patricia Mack narrowly missed her third-straight double-double with nine points and game-high 15 rebounds.

Gray led Austin Peay with 16 points on 8-of-29 shooting.

The victory was the first win on the road for Southeast since a season-opening victory against Alabama A&M on Nov. 8.

"To win a conference game on the road, where we have been struggling, is a big win," Margenthaler said. "I hope this can carry over. I told the team this is our time, its time to start having some fun."

The Redhawks continue its stay on the road as they travel to Murray State for a 7 p.m. contest Monday night.
