Women's Hoops Set for Preseason Favorite UT Martin

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southeast Missouri women's basketball team will look to get back on the winning track at the Ohio Valley Conference preseason favorite UT Martin. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. in Martin, Tenn.
 
About UT Martin
UT Martin was tabbed as the preseason favorites and have lived up to that billing with an 11-6 record and 4-0 in OVC action. The reigning Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the year, Jasmine Newsome, averages 19.2 points and 4.2 rebounds per game. However, Heather Butler is the teams leading scorer at 21.9 points per game.
 
The Skyhawks are coming off a victory over Belmont on Saturday, an 82-53 triumph. Butlet scored a game-high 22 points while Ashia Jones scored 17 and grabbed five rebounds. Newsome was held in-check with just nine points on 3-of-6 shooting.
 
Last Meeting
UT Martin swept last years meeting having won eight-straight over the Redhawks.
 
The first meeting last year was in Cape Girardeau as UT Martin pulled off an 82-71 win while winning 75-61 in Martin.

What a win will do
A win will snap an eight-game losing streak to UT Martin. The last victory against the Skyhawks came Feb. 21, 2009 as the Redhawks prevailed 58-39 in Cape Girardeau.
 
A win also gets Southeast back on track with a second win in OVC action.

Although it was a loss on Saturday, sophomores Olivia Hackmann and Connor King had career nights in points while Kenyada Brown set a new high in rebounds. Hackmann scored 16 points while King notched 13. Brown snagged nine rebounds, which tripled her previous high.
 
Contrasting a Win Versus a Loss
In Southeast's five wins this year, the Redhawks place four players in double-digit scoring and average 74.2 points per game. In the 11 losses, just one Redhawk scores in double figures and the team scores just 56.1 points.
 
The wins also show a +10.6 rebound margin while a loss has Southeast at a -3.1 rebound margin.
 
Shooting the ball dramatically improves when the Redhawks prevail with a 44.3 clip compared to 33.3 percent in a loss.
 
All five of Southeast's wins have come after the Redhawks held a halftime lead.
 
All five wins have also happened with Southeast scoring at least 70 points in a game.
 
Hometown of the Future
Martin, Tenn., is the hometown of future Southeast Missouri Redhawk Kaley Lehue. The 5-11 guard attends Westview High School and helped the Lady Chargers reach the Elite Eight as a junior.
 
Active OVC Leaders
Mack is the active leader in the OVC with 714 career rebounds. Jessica Winfrey of Murray State comes in second with 679 rebounds.
 
Allyson Bradshaw is ranked seventh on the active 3-pointers made list in the OVC with 104. Heather Butler of UT Martin is ranked first with 333.
 
Chasing the Record Book
Junior Allyson Bradshaw moved into sixth place all-time on the made 3-point field goal list. With 104 in her career, she now trails Rusty Sowers (1997-99) who drained 110 shots from long range.
 
After breaking into the top-10 for all-time rebounds, Patricia Mack is continuing her ascent up the list. She passed Kim Palmer for eighth all-time at Missouri State with 714 rebounds. She now has her sight set on Vera Roberts who corralled 719 rebounds from 1986-1990.
 
Rebounds All Around
The Redhawks own the third-best rebound margin in the OVC at +1.7. Southeast ranks third grabbing 69.7 percent of all defensive rebounds while ranking second on the other end of the floor, securing 34.6 percent of available offensive rebounds.
 
Patricia Mack and Connor King have dominated the boards for the Redhawks, combining for nearly 40 percent of Southeast's rebounds. Mack accounts for 22 percent while King accounts for 16 percent of the available rebounds.
 
At 9.3 rebounds per game, Mack ranks third in the OVC in rebounds per game. She trails Jessica Winfrey of Murray State who grabs 11.3 and Sabina Oroszoba of EIU who grabs 10.4 per game.
 
King has quietly snuck into the top-15 with 5.9 rebounds per game.
