Redhawks Fall to OVC Leader Tennessee Tech in Series Opener

The two teams return to action on Saturday night at 5:00 p.m.

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri dropped a 16-1 decision to Ohio Valley Conference leader Tennessee Tech on Friday evening at Capaha Field in the opening game of a three game weekend set. The Golden Eagles scored eight runs in the first three innings on their way to the win.

The Redhawks fall to 22-28 on the season and 13-15 in the OVC as TTU moves to 34-14 and 20-5 in the OVC.

Tennessee Tech starter Tristian Archer (8-4) was impressive on the mound going seven innings with 11 strikeouts on the night as he allowed an earned run on seven hits.

Trevor Kill (0-3) was tagged with the loss for the Redhawks going 2.2 innings. Junior Skylar Cobb was solid in relief going 4.1 innings allowing four hits with three strikeouts.

Matt Tellor led the Redhawks offense going 2-for-4 with a run scored. Clayton Evans also added a pair of hits going 2-for-3.

The Golden Eagles raced out to a 5-0 lead on the Redhawks in the first two frames. A home run by Zach Stephens got TTU on the board in the first inning. They followed with four runs in the second frame on four consecutive two-out hits.

The Redhawks got on the board in the bottom of the second inning as Tellor led off the frame with a double and later scored on a Nolan Fisher RBI infield single.

Tennessee Tech added three-runs in the third inning as they scored all three runs with two outs to take a 8-1 lead. The Golden Eagles would add three more runs in the eighth and five runs in the ninth inning  on their way to the win.

The Golden Eagles were led by Michael Morris as he was 4-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored as Tennessee Tech tallied 22 hits on the night. Zach Zarzour and Stephens added three hits for TTU.

The Redhawks and Golden Eagles will meet again tomorrow at 5:00 p.m. at Capaha Field. Sophomore Will Spitzfaden will toe the rubber for the Redhawks as he opposes Tennessee Tech right-hander Ross Spurgeon.
