Setting the Table
The Southeast Missouri baseball team continues their five game homestand as the Redhawks welcome OVC rival Austin Peay for the three game weekend set. Action opens up on Friday at 5:00 p.m. Saturday's 2:00 p.m. game will be the second Redhawks Baseball Tailgate presented by Jimmy John's and Kohlfeld Distributing. Sunday series finale will be slated for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.

Redhawks Against Austin Peay
The Redhawks are 45-34 all-time against the Govenors. Austin Peay took four the the five meetings last season. APSU swept a weekend series at Capaha Field  (March 23-25, 2012). The Redhawks took a 4-3 decision in the OVC Tournament, but the Govs defeated the Redhawks 10-6 in the OVC tournament elimination contest.

Born to Run
Southeast Missouri was 18-for-21 in stolen bases last week. The Redhawks stole 10 bases against SIUE on Saturday, it was the most in a game in the OVC since  Austin Peay recorded 11 against Western Kentucky on April 6, 2006. Clayton Evans recorded three stolen bases on the day. Evans' three stolen bases was the most by a Redhawk player since Tony Spencer did it against Alabama on February 21, 2009. Southeast is 28th in NCAA in steals. The Redhawks stole two bases on Tuesday against SIU.

Going Streaking
Derek Gibson moved his hitting streak to 14-games on Tuesday. Gibson also moved his batting average up to .368 on the season ranking second in the OVC.  He hit .438 last week with seven hits. The junior added two hits and a walk on Tuesday. He recorded a 29-game hitting streak last season.

Southeast's Luke Shearrow has won back to back games in his last two outings. He has thrown 10 straight innings of scoreless baseball as he has recorded 13 strikeouts dating back to March 16.

Great When Late
Southeast's Bobby Hurst is fifth in the Ohio Valley Conference is saves with five on the season He has also recorded a 2-0 record. Hurst has thrown 14.2 innings on the season and has an ERA of 0.61. He is tied for sixth all-time in career saves at Southeast with six. He is also for fourth in single season saves with five.

Preseason OVC Polls
The Southeast Missouri Baseball team was picked eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. Austin Peay, the OVC Co-Regular season and tournament champions in back-to-back seasons were picked to win the league with 14 first place votes. Southeast Missouri junior left fielder Derek Gibson was named Preseason All-OVC after earning First-Team All-OVC last season by the coaches and sports information directors in the OVC.
