Baseball Heads to Arkansas State for Midweek Showdown

Setting the Table
The Southeast Missouri baseball team heads to regional rival Arkansas State for a 6:30 p.m. start at Tomlinson Stadium in Jonesboro, Ark Tuesday evening. It will be the first of two meetings between the schools this season as ASU will visit Capaha Field on April 16. Hank Williams, Jr. is slated to get the start for the Redhawks against the Red Wolves Derek Birginske.

Redhawks Against Arkansas State
The Red Wolves own a 30-29 record in the all-time series against the Redhawks. Southeast and Arkansas State split their season home and home series last year with each team winning at home.The Redhawks defeated ASU in their second meeting last season 5-3 after falling in Jonesboro 10-5.

Born to Run
The Redhawks lead the Ohio Valley Conference in stolen bases on the season with 36. The Redhawks surpassed their 2012 season total of 30 last week as they stole six bases.

No Doubles Trouble
Southeast Missouri hit 12 doubles last week as they have now recorded 58 on the season to lead the Ohio Valley Conference. Cole Bieser recorded four doubles last week to lead the charge.

Preseason OVC Polls
The Southeast Missouri Baseball team was picked eighth in the Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Poll. Austin Peay, the OVC Co-Regular season and tournament champions in back-to-back seasons were picked to win the league with 14 first place votes. Southeast Missouri junior left fielder Derek Gibson was named Preseason All-OVC after earning First-Team All-OVC last season by the coaches and sports information directors in the OVC.
