CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
On a night where the Southeast Missouri gymnastics team honored its four seniors, the upper classmen showed they had plenty left in the tank in a 194.225-193.875 win over Texas Woman's on Friday night.

The Redhawks (4-5, 3-2 Midwest Independent) claimed their second-straight dual win and, more importantly, scored above 194 for the second meet in a row.

“This was a great way to send our seniors out,” Southeast head coach Kristi Ewasko said. “Taylor Westrick continued to do what she does tonight. I'm proud of the leadership she has shown, particularly this year, in and out of the gym. This was a very special senior class, they were freshmen when I got her. We've had our ups and downs through the years and I'm pleased with the young women they have become.”

Southeast dug itself into a bit of a whole on vault during the first rotation. The Redhawks counted a fall to score 47.975 while TWU scored 48.375 on bars. Megan Fosnow tied for the individual title with a 9.825 while Margaret O'Neal recorded a season-high 9.725 in her final home meet.

The Redhawks earned the top three spots on bars in the next rotation. Taylor Westrick's 9.825 led the way with while Fosnow scored a 9.800 and O'Neal tallied a 9.775. Taylor Penzien took fifth with a strong 9.725 of her own as Southeast finished with a 48.750. The Pioneers countered with a 48.625 on vault as the Redhawks chipped away at the early deficit.

Westrick continued her winning ways on beam, claiming the title with a 9.850. Southeast notched a season-high 48.700 mark as a team with Kimberly Pickerl notching a career-best 9.775 and Samantha Marrero recording a 9.750. Southeast did not count a score below 9.650 in the third rotation, though TWU scored 48.750 on floor to slightly extend its lead in the team standings.

The Pioneers counted a fall on beam, opening the door for a Redhawk comeback. Southeast took advantage with a 48.800 as a team while TWU scored 48.125 on its final event. Taryn Vanderpool shook off some earlier falls to erupt with a beautifully executed floor routine that earned the junior a career-best 9.850 and gave her the individual title. Emma Garrett went out strong in her final home meet, tallying a 9.825 to place second. Pickerl (9.750) and Fosnow (9.725) also scored above 9.700 for Southeast.

“Overall, this team fought tonight,” Ewasko said. “It would've been easy to give up after we counted a fall on vault, but we rallied to have a good meet. This group showed what they're made of.”

Fosnow claimed the all-around title with a season-best 39.025 while Pickerl claimed third in the competition with a 38.775.

“Megan had a great meet,” Ewasko said. “She is showing more confidence in practice and that is finally beginning to carry over into meets.”

The Redhawks have two more regular season meets and are back in action on March 15 when they travel to Kent State for a quad-meet against KSU, New Hampshire and Cornell.
