CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team finishes up its home slate on Friday when it takes on Texas Woman's at Houck Field House. The meet begins at 6:30 p.m. After the competition, the Redhawks will honor seniors Emma Garrett, Margaret O'Neal, Angela Serafini and Taylor Westrick as they compete in their final home meets.

Last Week – Southeast posted a season-high score for the second-consecutive week last Sunday. The Redhawks posted a final rotation comeback win over Eastern Michigan, 194.775-194.675. Southeast tied a school record on bars and also posted its ninth-best vault score in school history to get off to a tremendous start. The Redhawks counted two falls on beam to fall behind, but closed the afternoon with a strong 49.100 on floor to post a victory. Eighteen of Southeast's 24 routines scored 9.700 or higher and nine Redhawks scored 9.800 or above.

About Texas Woman's – The Pioneers sit fourth in the MIC and 55th nationally with a team RQS of 192.555. TWU scored a season-high 195.300 against No. 1 Oklahoma last Friday. That score is the highest mark posted by any MIC team this season. Two Pioneer gymnasts lead the MIC in event RQS with Bethany Larrimer topping all vault competitors with a 9.850 and Kristin Edwards leading the league on floor (9.825).

First Touch

Senior Send Off – Seniors Emma Garrett, Margaret O'Neal, Angela Serafini and Taylor Westrick are stepping into Houck Field House for their final home meets on Friday. Those four gymnasts have combined for 151 scores of 9.700 or higher in their four years with the Redhawks. Westrick is a two-time regional qualifier who became the first Southeast gymnast to qualify for nationals since 1991 when she shared a regional title on beam last season. Garrett has scored 9.700 or higher 50 times in her four seasons and owns the team's highest floor score (9.925) this season. O'Neal has 28 scores of 9.700 or higher in her career and regularly competes in Southeast's vault and bars lineups. Serafini missed her final season due to injury, but posted 12 scores of 9.700 or better in her career and finished fourth on bars in the 2012 MIC Championships. Those four are all standouts in the classroom, helping Southeast finish first or second in team GPA every season with each earning NACGC/W All-Academic honors in each campaign.

Where They Stand – After last week's season-high performance against Eastern Michigan, the Redhawks improved their Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) to 193.125, ranking 51st nationally. The top 36 teams in the final rankings clinch a team spot in the NCAA Regional Championships. Entering this week, Iowa State sits 36th with a 194.715 RQS.

Record Performances – Southeast has etched itself into the school record book in recent meets. The Redhawks notched a floor score of 49.125, the ninth best in school history, during its Feb. 24 dual at Illinois State. On March 3, the Redhawks cracked the school's top-10 list a few times, tying the school record with a bars score of 49.175 and putting up the ninth-best vault score in Southeast history with a 48.800. Some individuals also cracked the school's record book with Taryn Vanderpool's 9.900 bars score ranking third among all Redhawks gymnasts, Emma Garrett's 9.925 placing sixth in school annals and Megan Fosnow's 9.875 vault also sitting sixth in Southeast history.

Coming Back Strong – After a pair of uncharacteristic falls early in the year, senior Emma Garrett has hit her stride in the last few weeks. Following consecutive falls on floor on Jan. 25 and Feb. 2, her first falls in the event since her freshman season, Garrett scored 9.700 or better in her last five floor routines. In fact, seven of her 10 routines the last four meets have gone 9.700 or higher. The senior put together an impressive floor performance on March 3, where she completed the Redhawks' comeback against Eastern Michigan with a career-best floor score of 9.925, the sixth-best score in school history.
