Southeast wins 11 events at OVC rival SIU Edwardsville on Saturday.

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Eleven Southeast Missouri student-athletes won events to give the track and field team a solid starting point for the outdoor season at the Cougar Classic on Saturday.
The Redhawks' men won the tri-meet, which also featured SIU Edwardsville and Illinois State, with 158 points. Southeast's women placed second with 172 points, just behind SIUE's 175.
“This was the first meet that we used our full squad,” Southeast head coach Eric Crumpecker said. “We had a lot of good performances for a first meet. Several people picked up from where they left off indoors. This is a good starting point and we're going to get back to work this week and prepare for our trip to Cincinnati.”
Southeast got first-place finishes from Kevin Farley in both the discus (170-11) and the shot put (55-6 1/4). Jeff Spangler also won the men's pole vault by clearing 12-1 1/2 while Brian Grote claimed the men's javelin after throwing 178-4. On the track, Kameron Long ran his first outdoor 800m of the year and won the event after crossing the line in 2:00.97 and Alex Zisser won the 3000m with a time of 8:33.02. Southeast's 4x400m relay team of Ellis Maise, Adam Shivers, Tyler Holmes and Kameron Long also won their race in a time of 3:22.68.
In other field events, the Redhawks also got points from Kenny Hosp in the high jump (third; 6-2 3/4), Jason Walker in the discus (fourth; 148-1), Farley (second; 184-7) and Craig Robinson (third; 180-2) in the hammer throw, Joel Krause in the javelin (second; 173-6), Robinson in the shot put (second; 52-6 3/4). On the track, Ryan Anderson (third; 4:06.09) and Long (fifth; 4:12.86) in the 1500m, Prentice Ivy in the 110m hurdles (third; 15.75), Maise in the 400m (second; 50.94), Kendrick Farr (third; 10.72) and Blake Smith (fifth; 11.08) in the 100m, Tyler Holmes in the 800m (fourth; 2:02.78), Farr (fourth; 22.26) and Trey Gardner (seventh; 23.97) in the 200m.
On the women's side, Jessica Brown shared the high jump with a leap of 5-4 1/4, one of four event winners for the Redhawk women. Jill Schnurbusch was sharp in winning pole vault with a height of 11-11 3/4. Courtney Gapelu claimed a win in the shot put, throwing 50-4 3/4 on her second throw. Jerika Lewis also won the 200m with a time of 24.68.
Other Southeast scorers in the field events were Macy Ritter in the high jump (fourth; 5-4 1/4), Erica Grajales in the pole vault (second; 11-5 3/4), Brown (second; 18-6 1/2) and Kim Moye (sixth; 16-9 3/4) in the long jump, Moye again in the triple jump (second; 37-1 3/4), Sarah Hall (second; 139-0) and Kayla Gutierrez (third; 133-10) in the discus, Gutierrez (third; 174-11) and Hall (fourth; 166-5) in the hammer throw, Hall (second; 103-1) and Emilea Old (third; 99-8) in the javelin and Hall once more in the shot put (second; 46-2 3/4). In the running events, Alyssa Rebecca (sixth; 4:52.63) and Mary Dohogne (seventh; 4:53.75) scored in the 1500m, Unique Hooks took second in the 100m hurdles (15.30), Cheyenne Tunti (third; 58.02) and Jovannie Spears (fifth; 1:00.16) posted points in the 400m, Alison Barker (third; 1:10.29) and Hooks (fifth; 1:15.57) scored in the 400m hurdles, Rebecca (third; 2:24.04) and Dohogne (fourth; 2:27.03) placed in the 800m, Rebekah Lawson (second; 10:17.28) and Gloria Westlake (sixth; 10:57.99) scored in the 3000m and the 4x400m relay team of Tunti, Lewis, Rebecca and Barker took second with a time of 4:06.62.
Southeast returns to competition on March 29 when it travels to the Oliver Nikoloff Invitational in Cincinnati, Ohio.
