HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Southeast Missouri (2-2) earned its second shutout of the season with a 7-0 victory over Alabama A&M (1-7) Saturday.
In singles action,
Heather Robinson defeated Denise Cherry, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1 and
Elizabeth Nyenwe took care of Shannon Warner in three sets, 3-6, 6-0, 10-3.
Nikole Novikova, after being down 5-2, won six-straight games to take control of her match with Morgan Shaw in the No. 3 spot. Novikova won, 7-5, 6-3.
Jessica Courtnell,
Melissa Martin and
Lauren Schaper were also victorious.
Courtnell beat Jessica Taylor, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 4 and Martin downed Quanda Jarrett, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5. Schaper rounded out the singles card with a 6-3, 6-1, win in the No. 6 spot.
Southeast won all three doubles matches, with Novikova/Robinson defeating Shaw/Warner, 8-6, at the top of the lineup. Nyenwe/Schaper beat Jarrett/Taylor, 8-6, at No. 2, and Courtnell/Martin won over Cherry/Kennemore, 8-2, at No. 3.
The Redhawks, who split their first road trip of the season, will take a two-week break before opening Ohio Valley Conference play at home against Eastern Illinois on Mar. 16.
