Redhawks Come Up Short Against SIUE, 4-3

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Southeast Missouri (2-4, 0-2) came up short in a 4-3 loss to SIU Edwardsville (5-8, 1-1) Sunday night in Ohio Valley Conference action at the Edwardsville YMCA.

Southeast suffered its second-straight loss and second by one point this season. The Redhawks were victorious in No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles, but dropped two doubles bouts.

Elizabeth Nyenwe defeated Kali Donner, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2, Nikole Novikova took care of Sierra Halverson, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3 and Jessica Courtnell beat Lindsey Raymond, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 4 for Southeast's singles wins.

Novikova and Heather Robinson fell to Donner and Halverson, 8-6, in No. 1 doubles, while Nyenwe and Lauren Schaper dropped an 8-3 decision to Monique Krutak and Haley IIcewicz at No. 2. Courtnell and Melissa Martin defeated Amanda Miller and Raymond, 8-3, in the No. 3 position.

The Redhawks and Cougars were initially scheduled to play in Cape Girardeau Sunday, but the match was moved to Edwardsville due to inclement weather.

Southeast returns to action when it hosts UT Martin on Mar. 22.
