CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Southeast Missouri (2-3, 0-1) opened Ohio Valley Conference play with a 7-0 loss to Eastern Illinois (6-2, 1-0) Saturday afternoon at the Redhawks Tennis Complex.

Sarah Uptmor, also a member of Southeast's soccer team, made her debut at the No. 5 singles position. Uptmor fell to Jennifer Kim, 6-0, 6-0. Kristen Laird followed with a 6-1, 6-1, victory over Lauren Schaper at the No. 6 spot before Janelle Prisner defeated Heather Robinson, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 1.

Nikole Novikova then came up short in a 6-3, 7-6 loss to Merritt Whitley in No. 3 singles, Jessica Courtnell suffered her first loss of the season at No. 4 and Elizabeth Nyenwe was defeated in three sets by Sephora Boulbahaiem, 7-5, 3-6, 10-6, at No. 2, rounding out the order of finish.

In doubles play, Prisner and Whitley took care of Novikova and Robinson at No. 1, while Kim and Kimbrough beat Nyenwe and Schaper at No. 2. Both of those matches were by scores of 8-3. Foster and Laird defeated Courtnell and Martin, 8-5, at the No. 3 spot.

Southeast will travel to SIU Edwardsville for a 5:30 p.m., CT, match Sunday.
