Final Meet Results
CARBONDALE, Ill. – After not being able to participate at the EIU Early Bird Friday, the Southeast Missouri track and field teams hit the road to Southern Illinois Saturday for the Saluki Fast Start. The Redhawks walked away with four event titles, two of which belonging to Blake Smith in the long jump and 60 meter dash.
Chris Martin (triple jump) and Prenecia Ponds (200 meter dash) also picked up first-place victories in their respective events Saturday.
In the men's 60 meter dash, Smith took first with a time of 6.81 seconds while Blake Carter quickly followed in second-place with a time of 6.90.
It was a similar story in the long jump as Smith's 24'-5" mark took first, Carter's 24'-0.25" mark took second, and Martin, with a 23'-3.5" mark took third.
Martin also took the triple jump crown with a 50'-10" result. Martin took second in the high jump as well.
Other men's track event results included Mike Peters taking second in the 60m hurdles (8.62).
On the women's side, Ponds took first-place in the women's 200m dash with a time of 25.47 seconds. Ayonna Cartwright took fourth in the event with a 25.55 mark.
Jovannie Spears came in second-place in the 600m dash in 1:40.44. Cheyenne Tunti came in fourth-place in the 400 meter dash in 59.77 seconds. In the 60 meter dash, Cartwright (second, 7.71), Ponds (fourth, 7.83) and Kayla Heidelberg (sixth, 7.86) rounded out the track events for Southeast.
In Saturday's field events, Erica Grajales posted an 11'-5.75" mark, good enough for second-place in the pole vault. Duncan Ross tied for third in the men's pole vault with a 14'-7.25" mark.
Kevin Farley placed third (61'-0.25") in the weight throw. Jason Walker (52'-9.25") took seventh while Seth Sievers (46'-5.25") finished ninth.
In the women's weight throw, Kayla Gutierrez took third with a 60'-0.25" throw while Bethany Pfeiffer took fourth with a throw of 59'-11.75".
Farley placed fourth in the men's shot put with a 57'-7" toss. Walker (45'-10.5") and Sievers (45'-7") took seventh and eighth, respectively.
Sarah Hall finished fourth in the women's shot put with a mark of 45'-6.5" while Gutierrez finished sixth with a 44'-6" throw.
Ahshane Johnson took the silver in the triple jump with 41'-1.5" jump. The Redhawks took four-through-seven in the women's long jump, led by Jessica Brown with a jump of 18'-8.5". Macy Ritter led Southeast in the high jump with a sixth-place, 5'-3" jump.
The Redhawks take a hiatus from competition until after the semester break when they head to Edwardsville, Ill. to take on the SIUE Cougars, Jan. 25.
