The Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team welcomes the Belmont Bruins to the Show Me Center for a 2 p.m. matinee Tuesday to open the Ohio Valley Conference season.

About Belmont
The Belmont Bruins are led by first year head coach Cameron Newbauer and are 3-11 on the year, picking up wins over Mercer, Lipscomb and Kent State.

The Bruins place a pair in double-digit scoring, led by Molly Ernst at 15.0 points per game. Jordyn Luffman scores 13.6 points and snags 7.2 rebounds per game. Ernst has just played in the last two games for the Bruins, making a start against SIUE.

Trying to find a combination that works, Newbauer has started 13 different players this year including seven different combinations.

Last Meeting
Southeast fell 71-58 on New Year's Eve last year after holding a 34-25 halftime lead. Bailie Roberts led the Redhawks with 18 points while Jordan Hunter added 13. Allyson Bradshaw came off the bench for 10 points.

Quick Hits

What a win will do
A win will snap a six-game OVC opener losing streak, having lost to Austin Peay three times, TSU two times and Belmont last year. The last victory to start the OVC season was Dec. 7, 2006, a 67-53 victory over TSU.

Now Trending
Southeast is looking to win 2-out-of-3 for the second time this year, when the Redhawks sandwiched victories over Alabama A&M and UMKC around a loss to Bradley.

All four of Southeast's wins have come after the Redhawks held a halftime lead.

All four wins have also happened with Southeast scoring at least 70 points in a game.

Contrasting a Win Versus a Loss
In Southeast's four wins this year, the Redhawks place four players in double-digit scoring and average 74 points per game. In the nine losses, just one Redhawk scores in double figures and the team scores just 55.1 points.

The wins also show a +12.0 rebound margin while a loss has Southeast at a -3.7 rebound margin.

Shooting the ball dramatically improves when the Redhawks prevail with a 44.8 clip compared to 32.6 percent in a loss.

Bench Warmers?
The Southeast bench has a knack for scoring points from the bench. Through the team's first nine games, the Southeast bench has outscored its opponents 287-184. Southeast has won the bench battle in nine games and tied Wichita State and Saint Louis. Southeast has only been outscored by its opponent's bench twice.

Chasing the Record Book
Junior Allyson Bradshaw moved into sixth place all-time on the made 3-point field goal list. With 101 in her career, she now trails Rusty Sowers (1997-99) who drained 110 shots from long range.

After breaking into the top-10 for all-time rebounds, Patricia Mack is continuing her ascent up the list. She passed Kim Palmer for eighth all-time at Missouri State with 680 rebounds. She now has her sight set on Vera Roberts who corralled 719 rebounds from 1986-1990.

A Thing for Boards
The Redhawks own the third-best rebound margin in the OVC at +1.2. Southeast ranks fourth grabbing 68.2 percent of all defensive rebounds while ranking second on the other end of the floor, securing 35.0 percent of available offensive rebounds.

Patricia Mack and Connor King have dominated the boards for the Redhawks, combining for nearly 40 percent of Southeast's rebounds. Mack accounts for 22 percent while King accounts for 16 percent of the available rebounds.

At 8.8 rebounds per game, Mack ranks third in the OVC in rebounds per game. She trails Jessica Winfrey of Murray State who grabs 10.8 and Sabina Oroszoba of EIU who grabs 9.6 per game.

Preseason Accolades
After averaging 10.6 points in conference play (8.5 overall) as a freshman, Kara Wright was voted onto the preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference team by the league's coaches and sports information directors. The Louisville, Ky., native is the lone underclassman on the preseason all-conference team. She earned a spot on the OVC All-Newcomer team, the first Redhawks to earn postseason All-OVC honors since the 2008-09 season.

Preseason Polling
The poll tabbed Southeast to finish fifth in the OVC West Division. The Redhawks garnered 61 voting points.

Three-time defending OVC Tournament Champion UT Martin is the preseason favorite once again with 22 first-place votes and 132 voting points. SIU Edwardsville (103 points; two first-place votes), Eastern Illinois (85 points), Murray State (68 points), Southeast and Austin Peay (42 points) round out the predicted order of finish in the OVC West.

On the other side, Tennessee Tech grabbed 12 first-place votes and 119 voting points to lay claim as the preseason OVC East favorite. Belmont earned nine first-place votes and 115 points to check in at second. Eastern Kentucky (95 points; three first-place votes), Morehead State (66 points), Tennessee State (65 points) and Jacksonville State (32 points) make up the rest of the East poll.

Looking ahead to 2014-15
Head coach Ty Margenthaler announced Nov. 13 the signing of two student-athletes for the 2014-15 season. The Redhawks welcome Imani Johnson of Lee's Summit, Mo., and Kaley Leyhue of Martin, Tenn. Johnson enters her senior year of prep play as a two-time All-State honoree while Leyhue was named the Jackson Sun's Super Senior as she has drained 101 long-range baskets in high school
