About Morehead State – The Eagles are off to a 2-3 start to conference play and hold a 6-13 overall record. MSU has struggled scoring the basketball and sit dead last in the OVC in scoring offense (54.5 points per game). That figure has jumped up to 63.6 points per game (ninth) in OVC play. Defensively, MSU has allowed 70+ points in four of its five conference games and are yielding 71.6 in league play, 10th in the conference. The Eagles are the league's worst rebounding team, averaging only 28.6 rebounds and getting outboarded by 12.5 per game. Junior guard Terrice Robinson is third in the conference with 17.3 points per game (20.6 in OVC play). Almesha Jones also averages double-digit points (11.2 overall; 15.6 OVC) with the Eagles' top two scorers making up 52 percent of their scoring. MSU likes the three-point shot, averaging 7.2 three-pointers per game (second in the OVC), but it takes the second most threes in the league and is shooting only 29 percent from long range (eighth).
Last Meeting – Southeast trailed MSU by 13 points early in the second half, but stormed back to make the game a nail biter. The Redhawks pulled within one point at the 5:49 and 2:35 mark, but never took the lead in the second half.
Patricia Mack posted a 15 point, 11 rebound double-double and
Bailie Roberts also tallied 15 points while
Bianca Beck added 13. MSU's Courtney Lumpkin led all players with 30 points.
With a win, Southeast would…
•Snap a two-game losing streak.
•Defeat Morehead State for the first time since Feb. 7, 2008 (50-48), breaking a seven-game losing streak in the series.
•Pick up its ninth win, its most since the 2008-09 season.
•Improve to 7-2 at home.
Home is Where the Heart is – Southeast has been a completely different team at home versus on the road this season. The Redhawks are averaging 65.9 points per game in their eight home dates, going 6-2 in those games. Conversely, Southeast is scoring only 54.3 points in its 10 games away from the Show Me Center, scoring less than 60 points in the last nine away dates. The first half has been the biggest difference within those games as Southeast has tallied 28 or more first-half points and led at halftime in all but one of its home games, but has only scored more than 27 first-half points on the road twice. The Redhawks have trailed at halftime in nine of their 10 road/neutral site contests and five of those deficits have been by 10 points or more.
Injury News – Senior post
Courtney Shiffer has missed the Redhawks' last two games due to a concussion sustained in practice. The senior, who started 14 of Southeast's first 16 games, averages 4.2 points and 4.8 rebounds and ranks sixth in the OVC with 0.9 blocks per game. These are the first games Shiffer has missed since coming to Southeast and she is presently day-to-day.
Offense Perks Up – The Redhawks have picked it up at the offensive end since the beginning of conference play. Southeast averaged 56.9 points per game in their first 12 games of the season, scoring 55 points or less six times. Since OVC play started, the Redhawks have scored 58 or more points in six-straight games. Southeast has cracked 70 or more points in three of their five league games and is averaging 65.6 points per game in OVC play.
Needing More D – The Redhawks' success has been largely fueled by its defense. The Redhawks rank third in the OVC in scoring defense (62.4 points per game) and field goal defense (36.9 percent). During its three-game winning streak at the start of January, Southeast allowed an average of 55.7 points in wins over Austin Peay, Murray State and Saint Louis. Those three teams shot a collective 32.4 percent from the field and Southeast held MSU to 27.7 percent shooting in its Jan. 7 win. In the past two games (both losses), Southeast allowed an average of 75 points and 40.8 percent shooting.
