About UT Martin – The Skyhawks boast the Ohio Valley Conference's top offensive attack at 70.8 points per game. UTM is led by juniors Heather Butler (22.2 points per game) and Jasmine Newsome (19.8 points per game), the top two scorers in the OVC. The scoring drops off rather drastically past those two as the rest of the team averages just 28.8 points per contest. After winning the OVC with a 15-1 league ledger and subsequent OVC Tournament win last year, the Skyhawks have had a more difficult time early on this season. UTM is 2-2 in league play (7-11 overall) and coming off a 58-56 loss at Belmont on Saturday night. Only two OVC teams allow more than UT Martin's 69.6 points per game and only Morehead State is below UTM's -7.1 rebounding margin per game.
Last Meeting – UT Martin spoiled Southeast's senior night, leading by as many as 36 points and never trailing once in a 77-44 win.
Brittany Harriel made 8-of-11 shots to finish with 16 points, the only Redhawk to crack double figures.
With a win, Southeast would…
•Win its most games since the 2008-09 season, when it went 15-15.
•Defeat UT Martin for the first time since Feb. 21, 2009 (58-39).
•Win its fourth-straight home game.
•Hold its best five-game conference record since the 2008-09 season (3-2).
Home is Where the Heart is – Southeast has been a completely different team at home versus on the road this season. The Redhawks are averaging 65.1 points per game in their seven home dates, going 6-1 in those games. Conversely, Southeast is scoring only 54.3 points in its 10 games away from the Show Me Center, scoring less than 60 points in the last nine away dates. The first half has been the biggest difference within those games as Southeast has tallied 28 or more first-half points and led at halftime in all but one of its home games, but has only scored more than 27 first-half points on the road twice. The Redhawks have trailed at halftime in nine of their 10 road/neutral site contests and five of those deficits have been by 10 points or more.
Long Awaited Win Streak – Southeast defeated Austin Peay, Murray State and Saint Louis to start the 2013 calendar year, closing the book on a dubious trend over the past few seasons. Those victories were the first consecutive wins by the Redhawks since they defeated Tennessee State and Western Michigan on Dec. 4-7, 2010. Southeast's three-game winning streak was its first since Jan. 29-Feb. 4, 2009.
Cleaning the Glass – Junior forward
Patricia Mack has been a force on the glass this season. Through 17 games, Mack is third in the OVC in rebounding at 9.6 per game. She has grabbed 10+ boards 10 times this season, the first being a career-high 17-point, 10-rebound double-double at Arkansas State on Nov. 19. After two games with single-digit rebounds, Mack grabbed 10 or more rebounds in seven-straight games. She corralled 12 at Missouri on Nov. 29, pulled in a career-high 17 rebounds against UIC on Dec. 1, grabbed 11 more at Southern Illinois on Dec. 5, recorded 16 against Western Illinois on Dec. 8, finished with 10 at Western Kentucky on Dec. 16, posted a 12-point 10-rebound double-double against Missouri State on Dec. 21 and closed the calendar year with 11 rebounds at Belmont on Dec. 31. That streak ended due to foul trouble against Austin Peay, but Mack is the first Redhawk to grab 10+ rebounds in seven straight games since Lachelle Lyles did it in 13-straight contests on two separate occasions during the 2006-07 season. Mack got back to work with 12 boards against Murray State on Jan. 7 and corralled 15 in a win over Saint Louis on Jan. 9.
Hunter Gets Back on Track – Junior point guard
Jordan Hunter had a difficult stretch taking care of the ball, but she has made strides in preventing turnovers lately. The Papakura, New Zealand native committed 27 turnovers (5.4 per game) over five games from Nov. 24 to Dec. 8. In her last seven games, however, Hunter has turned the ball over 21 times (3.0 per game) while dishing out 30 assists (4.3 per game). In four OVC games, Hunter has 24 assists against 16 turnovers and is leading the team with 17.5 points per game.
