Baseball Drops Series Finale With Jacksonville State, 8-7

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – Southeast Missouri (17-32, 8-13 OVC) dropped their series finale with Jacksonville State 8-7 Sunday afternoon at Rudy Abbott Field in Jacksonville, Ala. The back-and-forth affair saw five lead changes as the Gamecocks (22-24, 14-7 OVC) took the series from the Redhawks.

“The effort that the team put forward this weekend was as good as we have had all season,” said head coach Mark Hogan.

Trenton Moses extended his hitting streak to 17-games and his reaching base safely streak to 69-games with a solo home run to left field to open up the scoring in the top of the first stanza.

Jacksonville State responded taking a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Southeast Starter Dylan Lynn walked the first two JSU batters, they would later score on a sacrifice fly and an RBI single.

The Redhawks reclaimed the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run home run to centerfield from Kody Campbell, his seventh home run of the season gave the Redhawks a 3-2 advantage.

Jacksonville State added two runs in the four and fifth innings to take back the lead at 4-3. The Gamecocks took the lead on an RBI single by Sam Eberle, as he broke a JSU record for RBI in a career at the NCAA Division I level.

The Redhawks took back the lead in the sixth inning on a two-run double to left centerfield by Jason Blum. Freshman Cody Spanberger added a pinch-hit RBI single to give the Redhawks a 6-4 lead.

After Jacksonville State added a run in the sixth frame sophomore Derek Gibson delivered a RBI triple to right center to expand the Southeast lead to 7-5.

JSU followed the Redhawks seventh frame and erupted for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on four consecutive base hits as the Gamecocks took a 8-7 lead on the Redhawks.

Jacksonville State then called on All-American closer Jack Hornsby in the ninth inning as he collected his tenth save of the season as the Redhawks dropped the season finale, 8-7.

Campbell ended the afternoon 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. Gibson finished the contest 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored.

Ryan Prickett (1-1) was tagged with the loss for the Redhawks going 1.1 innings allowing three runs on five hits. Lynn finished his day throwing 4.2 innings with five strikeouts.

Travis Stout (5-1) picked up the win out of the bullpen for JSU throwing 2.1 innings with three strikeouts.

Kyle Bluestein was 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Gamecocks.

The Redhawks return home next weekend hosting Murray State in a three game set at Capaha Field
