Redhawks Drop Regular Season Finale, Six Seniors Honored Before the Contest

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO. – Southeast Missouri dropped their regular season finale with SIUE 24-7 Saturday afternoon at Capaha Field. Southeast finishes the regular season 21-34 and 12-15 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
 
The Redhawks will now prepare for the 2012 OVC Championship Tournament next week.
 
SIUE jumped out to an early 8-0 lead after three innings of play as they added four runs in the first and third innings. A pair of two-run home runs from Joel Greatting and Zach Hawkins highlighted the early outburst.
 
The Redhawks battled back with six runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The inning saw three hits as Southeast scored the opening runs on a hit batter and wild pitch.
 
Andy Lennington highlighted the six-run fourth frame with a bases clearing double down the left field line as the Redhawks cut the deficit to 8-6.
 
Brett Keeler responded adding another two-run home run for the Cougars to expand the lead to 10-6 in the fifth inning.
 
The Redhawks added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on an RBI triple down the left field line from catcher Shane Blair to make it 10-7.
 
The Cougars added 12 more runs in the contest with five in the seventh and seven in the eighth as they took the contest.

Zack Smith (2-7) was tagged with the loss going 2.2 innings allowing seven runs (six earned) on six hits. Southeast used eight pitchers on the day.
 
Lennington led the Redhawks offense as he added three RBI on the day. Blair added two RBI for Southeast going 1-for-3 at the plate.

Trenton Moses extended his reaching base safely streak to 75-games with a walk, he also added a run in the contest.
 
Keeler led the Cougars going 4-for-5 on the day with eight RBI and four runs scored in his final collegiate game.
 
Brian Lorenz (5-0) earned the victory throwing 2.1 innings of relief allowing a hit and a run.

The Redhawks qualified for the OVC Baseball Tournament on Friday night and will play on Wednesday evening at 7:00 p.m., CT. at Pringles Park in Jackson, Tenn.
