Redhawks Blast Five Home Runs In 14-2 Win Over UT Martin

The Redhawks tied a season-high with five home runs against UT Martin on Sunday

MARTIN, Tenn. – Southeast Missouri tied a season-high with five home runs in a 14-2 rout of UT Martin Sunday afternoon in Martin, Tenn. Sophomore Derek Gibson lifted the Redhawks going 4-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBI as the Redhawks won their second consecutive series.

Gibson extended his hitting streak to 29-games as he finished the weekend with 13 RBI. His two home runs on Sunday came after a pair of intentional walks of Trenton Moses.

“We played good this weekend and our defense was strong and the bats came alive for us,” said head coach Mark Hogan.

The Redhawks got on the board first with a solo home run from Trenton Moses, his 17th of the season as he leads the Ohio valley Conference. He extended his reaching base safely streak to 65-games with the homer.

The Skyhawks took a 2-1 advantage in the bottom of the second inning in the only lead the Skyhawks would earn in the contest. The two run second inning was highlighted by a two-run single by Matt Young.

The Redhawks used the home run ball the rest of the way and never looked back. Gibson added two three-run home runs with one to centerfield in the third inning and another to right field in the fourth inning.

Andy Lennington added a home run in the fourth inning as he hit a line drive to left centerfield for his third home run of the season.

The Redhawks added three runs in the sixth inning to cap off their scoring. Ryan Barnes highlighted the inning with a blast to right field as the Redhawks took the contest, 14-2.

Dylan Lynn (4-0) remained undefeated on the season going seven innings allowing two runs on six hits with four strikeouts. The reigning OVC Pitcher of the Week has won two straight OVC starts.

Five Redhawks had multi-hit afternoons as Southeast pounded out 17 hits.

Parmley added two hits as he is only a hit away from tying Jeremy Johnson's career hits mark of 287.

Jesse Tierney, Barnes and Moses added two hits on the afternoon.

The Redhawks return to action on Tuesday at Saint Louis at 6:00 p.m.,CT.
