Lynn Throws Complete Game As Redhawks Down Tennessee Tech, 3-1

Kenton Parmley's Hitting Streak Came to An End On Sunday, His streak of 47-games is tied for Third All-Time In NCAA Division I History

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Southeast Missouri junior pitcher Dylan Lynn threw a complete game as the Redhawks (14-27, 5-10 OVC) defeated Tennessee Tech (17-22, 7-8 OVC) 3-1 Sunday afternoon at Capaha Field. The Redhawks won their first Ohio Valley Conference series of the season taking two of three from the Golden Eagles.
 
“It was a big win for us today,” said head coach Mark Hogan.
 
Senior Kenton Parmley's historic hitting streak came to an end at 47-games on Sunday. His streak is tied for third all-time in NCAA Division I history. He continued his reaching base safely streak (57-games) after a hit-by-pitch.
 
Parmley's streak started on May 17, 2011 against Ole Miss. During his streak he recorded 25 multi-hit contests and recorded three or more hits nine times.
 
“Kenton's streak was so impressive,” said Hogan. “We were lucky to watch a streak like that.”
 
Lynn's complete game was the first for a Redhawks pitcher since Jon Dicus threw a complete game against UT Martin on May 27, 2011 in the OVC Tournament. On the day Lynn threw 154 pitches with eight strikeouts on six hits.
 
“Dylan was great today and it couldn't have came at a better time for us,” said Hogan.
 
Lynn outdueled Tennessee Tech starter David Hess as he went eight inning allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits with 10 strikeouts.
 
“Coach Bieser and Jesse Tierney called a great game today and I just went out and executed my pitches,” said Lynn.
 
Southeast took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single to left field from Taylor Heon as he drove in freshman Ryan Barnes.
 
Southeast extended the lead to 2-0 in the third inning on a sacrifice fly in foul territory from Tierney scoring Trenton Moses.
 
The Redhawks tallied their third and final run in the fifth inning on another sacrifice fly this time from Trenton Moses as he plated Derek Gibson, who reached base on a double extending his hitting streak to 25-games.
 
Moses extended his reaching base safely streak to 61-games in the contest. Moses also paced the Redhawk defense with a pair of web gems.
 
“Moses really aided us today with his defense,” said Hogan. “He just continues to impress.”
 
The Golden Eagles added their only run in the sixth inning on an RBI single, But Lynn finished the game strong allowing only two base runners in the final three inning as Southeast took the game, 3-1.
 
The Redhawks return to action on Tuesday against regional rival Southern Illinois in Carbondale. First pitch against the Salukis is slated for 3:00 p.m., CT.
