CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – The Southeast Missouri baseball team dropped a 8-1 decision Tuesday afternoon against in-state rival Missouri State at Capaha field as the Redhawks played their ninth game in 11 days.
The Redhawks drop to 7-15 overall as the Bears, the Preseason Missouri Valley Conference favorite improved to 16-6.
“We knew that today was going to be a tough task,” said head coach Mark Hogan. “We have to respond to see how we will move forward.”
The Bears opened up the scoring with a trio of runs in the top of the fourth inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead. A two-run single off the bat of Keenen Maddox highlighted the inning.
Southeast got on the board in the bottom of the fourth frame as
Trenton Moses extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a solo home run to left centerfield, his ninth home run of the season to make it 3-1.
Missouri State added five more runs in the contest tallying one run in the sixth and four runs in the seventh on their way to the 8-1 victory.
Southeast was led by Moses, who was 2-for-3 extending his hitting streak to 13 games. He also extended his reaching base safely streak to 43 games with a walk to open up his day at the plate.
Parmley extended his hitting streak to 29 games with a single, while also extending his reaching base safely streak to 38 games.
Michael Patman (0-3) was tagged with the loss throwing two-thirds of an inning allowing three earned runs.
Dylan Lynn was solid in his first career start throwing three hitless innings.

Will Spitzfaden all saw time out of the Redhawk bullpen.
Grant Gordon (3-0) got the win for the Bears throwing 2.2 shutout innings in relief of starter Cody Schumacher. The Missouri State bullpen was solid in the victory throwing 5.2 innings of relief with no runs on six strikeouts.
Catcher Luke Voit paced the Bear's offense going 3-for-5 with an RBI and run scored.
The Redhawks return to action at Capaha Field this weekend against Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Favorite Austin Peay. Game one of the three game set is slated for 3:00 p.m., CT. Friday.
