TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Southeast Missouri (8-12) scored 13 unearned runs on 11 errors en route to a 4-0, 9-6, doubleheader sweep of Indiana State (11-7) Wednesday afternoon at Price Field.

Indiana State's 11 errors matched its total number of hits and outweighed its entire run output by a +5 margin on the day.

Southeast is on a three-game winning streak for the second time this season after earning its first doubleheader sweep in 2012.

The Sycamores committed a season-high seven errors in game one and blew a three-run lead in the nightcap. Southeast blanked an opponent for the first time in 20 games this season and snapped a nine-game losing skid away from home.

Southeast Missouri 4, Indiana State 0

Alora Marble matched a career-high eight strikeouts in a complete game four-hit shutout to lead Southeast Missouri to a 4-0 win over Indiana State in game one.

Marble (4-5) retired nine of 10 hitters and struck out the side in the fifth before facing Indiana State's biggest threat in the bottom of the seventh inning.

The Sycamores had runners on first and second with no outs before Marble beared down to get the final three outs, securing her fourth win.

Southeast would give Marble all the run support she would need thanks to a major defensive meltdown by Indiana State.

The Redhawks capitalized on Indiana State's seven errors with four unearned runs, including three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Both teams went scoreless for four innings until Indiana State's flurry of mishaps.

Xia Wilson led off the top of the fifth with a single through the left side. After Renee Terry pinch-ran for Wilson, Evan Sallis laid down a bunt-single to give the Redhawks runners at first and second with no outs.

On the next play, Cheyenne Gipson reached on an error, allowing Terry to score. Another miscue, this time by catcher Olivia Andres, led to two more runs, as Southeast took a 3-0 lead.

Shelby Stein doubled to start the sixth and came around to score when the Sycamores were charged with two errors on the same play. Stein moved to third on a miscue by first baseman Mackenzie Connelly and touched home on a wild throw by shortstop Alyssa Heller.

Southeast, like Indiana State, also finished with four hits. Sallis, Gipson, Stein and Wilson each hit safely and scored.

Southeast Missouri 9, Indiana State 6

Southeast Missouri overcame a three-run deficit to complete its doubleheader sweep with a 9-6 victory in the nightcap.

Indiana State led, 3-0, when Southeast took advantage of a two-out error to take the lead in the third inning.

Alene Bethel delivered a leadoff single to right center and advanced to second on a walk by Kaitlin Wallace.

After Simone Patterson struck out and Sallis grounded out to short, Sycamore third baseman Megan Stone bobbled the ball. Bethel and Wallace both scored on Stone's error before Lindsey Patterson knocked in Renee Kertz and Gipson on a double to right center, grabbing the Redhawks a 4-3 edge.

Southeast added to its lead with another four-run inning in the fifth.

Katy McAllister singled to left center and was replaced by pinch-runner Terry. Sallis reached on an error and Terry went to second on the play. Gipson followed with a single up the middle and Terry scored. On the next play, Kertz was ruled safe on yet another error which plated Gipson and Sallis. Taylor Cowan drove in Kertz on a base hit to right pushing Southeast's lead to 8-3.

Indiana State made things interesting when Danielle Ketner launched a two-out, three-run homer to make it 8-6 in the bottom of the sixth.

However, poor defense buried the Sycamores for good when the Redhawks tacked on one final insurance run in the seventh. Kertz reached on an error and scored on a two-out double by Stein to polish off the 9-6 win.

Shea Cothren (2-4) was credited with the win after tossing 2.2 scoreless innings of no-hit softball out of the Redhawks bullpen. Cothren relieved starter Lindsey Patterson in the third.

Marble pitched the rest of the way, allowing three runs on four hits in 2.1 innings.

Ashli Scott (4-4) took the loss. Scott gave up four runs (all unearned) on three hits, while striking out one and walking two.

Southeast outhit Indiana State 9-7 in game two, with Sallis and Bethel contributing two hits apiece. Kertz chipped in a game-high three runs scored.

The Redhawks face their second Missouri Valley Conference opponent in as many days when they head to Evansville for a 3 p.m., CT, doubleheader Thursday.
