Redhawk Softball Notebook
Spring Break
Southeast opens a nine-game road trip during its spring break this week. The Redhawks first visit Missouri Valley Conference opponents Indiana State (Mar. 14) and Evansville (Mar. 15), before returning to Ohio Valley Conference play with a three-game series at Eastern Kentucky (Mar. 17-18) this weekend.
Redhawks Take Conference-Opener
The Redhawks ended a nine-game losing streak with their dramatic 11-10 come-from-behind win over Morehead State on Mar. 10. Southeast and Morehead State combined for 13 runs in the seventh inning before
Cheyenne Gipson drew a bases loaded walk to win the game. The Redhawks secured a 2-1 series victory with their 9-5 win over the Eagles on Mar. 11.
Series History
Southeast leads its all-time series against Indiana State, 9-2. The Redhawks have won four of their last five games against the Sycamores. These teams last met in Cape Girardeau on Apr. 6, 2011. Southeast swept Indiana State, 10-8, 4-2, in a doubleheader during that meeting. Evansville owns a 17-10 advantage against Southeast. The Redhawks and Purple Aces split a doubleheader in Cape Girardeau on Mar. 23, 2011. Southeast shutout Evansville, 9-0, in game two of that twin bill.
Run, Run, Run
The Redhawks scored double-digit runs in a game for the third time this season when they plated 11 against Morehead State on Mar. 10. That run total surpassed Southeast's combined run output (10) in its previous five games. The Redhawks scored a season and Ohio Valley Conference single-game high 21 runs against Grambling State (Feb. 11).
Patterson Having Strong Rookie Campaign
Freshman P/UT
Lindsey Patterson is having a strong rookie campaign this season. Patterson is currently the Redhawks third-leading hitter with a .265 average in 17 starts. She ranks among the top-five team leaders in hits (3rd, 13), doubles (1st, 4), home runs (t1st, 1) and RBI (2nd, 12). Patterson has been hit by pitch a team-high five times, as well. In addition, Patterson is undefeated at 2-0 in three relief appearances.
Gipson on Four-Game Hitting Streak
Senior OF
Cheyenne Gipson enters the week on a four-game hitting streak. Gipson boasts a team-best .320 batting average as one of two Redhawks hitting over .300 on the year. She also leads the team with a near-perfect 9-of-10 stolen bases. Gipson's four-game hitting streak ranks as the third-longest of any Redhawk this season.
Southeast Looking to End Road Losing Streak
Southeast has lost nine-straight games away from home this season. The Redhawks are currently 4-11 (0-4 away, 4-7 neutral) on the road. Southeast's last win outside of Cape Girardeau was a 3-1 victory over Northwestern State at the UL Monroe Mardi Gras Classic on Feb. 12.
