CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Two national powers are on the docket as the Southeast Missouri gymnastics team heads to Oklahoma City, Okla., for the Perfect 10 Challenge. The Redhawks (0-3, 0-1 Midwest Independent) compete in a tri-meet with No. 5 Oklahoma and Iowa State on Friday evening starting at 7 p.m. CT.
Last Time Out – Megan Fosnow and
Emma Garrett experienced some individual success and Southeast added nearly two points to its team total from two weeks ago, but the Redhawks dropped a 193.450-188.350 decision at Michigan State last Saturday. Fosnow scored 9.700 or higher on both vault (9.725) and uneven bars (9.700). Her bars score in the first rotation tied teammate
Angela Serafini for third overall in the event while her vault score was good for fourth. The sophomore also competed in the all-around for the first time in her career and won the competition with a 37.250. Garrett tallied a 9.700 on floor exercise, earning a third-place tie with her third-consecutive score of 9.700 or higher on that event.
Oklahoma at a Glance – The Sooners are off to a tremendous start to their season, checking in fifth in the country with their 196.613 team average. OU ranks in the top five in both balance beam (fourth; 49.154) and vault (fifth; 49.263) while placing in the top 10 on uneven bars (sixth; 49.046) and floor exercise (eighth; 49.450). Individually, Oklahoma has two gymnasts ranked in the top-20 in different events. Megan Ferguson is the country's fourth-ranked beam competitor (9.883) while checking in at 11th on both floor (9.883) and bars (9.867). Sara Stone ranks 20th on vault (9.879).

Iowa State at a Glance – The Cyclones sit just outside the top 25, ranking 28th with their scoring average of 193.950. ISU's two best events are balance beam and floor exercise, where it ranks 17th (48.531) and 21st (48.775), respectively. Celine Paulus holds the Cyclones top individual gymnast ranking, checking in at 28th on floor.

Bring in the Specialist – Junior
Emma Garrett has been dynamite for Southeast three meets into the season, posting top-three finishes on both vault and floor in the Redhawks' first two meets. In six routines this season, Garrett has posted three scores of 9.700 or higher. In the last dual at Illinois State, the Jacksonville, Fla., native scored 9.750 on both vault and floor. Her four scores of 9.700 or better ties
Megan Fosnow for most among all Southeast gymnasts and her 26 career routines of such scores ranks second among all active Redhawks.
Fosnow Starting Strong – Another strong contributor to Southeast's scores in the early going is sophomore
Megan Fosnow on vault. The Franklin, Wis., native has gone 9.700 or better on the apparatus each of the first three meets, topping out at a 9.800 in the Redhawks' last dual at Illinois State. Fosnow has either shared or won individual titles in the event in the first two meets. She finished fourth at Michigan State and added a third-place finish on bars as well.
Floor General – Junior
Emma Garrett's mastery on the floor exercise has carried over into the first three meets of the year. Garrett has scored 9.700 or better in each meet, winning the individual crown both twice and finishing in the top three all three times. She tied her career high with a 9.850 to claim the event in the season opener against Northern Illinois, boasting the Redhawks' highest individual score of the young season. Against Illinois State on Jan. 21, Garrett tallied a 9.750 to win the outright title once again.
Sweeping Gold – While Southeast was unable to claim a team victory in its season-opening dual against NIU, the Redhawks put on a good showing individually. Southeast had an individual win an outright or shared title in all four events and also had the top all-around competitor.

Taryn Vanderpool shared the uneven bars crown and took the all-around competition.
