CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – Taylor Westrick tied her career-high on balance beam to headline the Southeast Missouri gymnastics program's top scoring output of the season on Saturday afternoon.
The Redhawks (0-6, 0-2 Midwest Independent) tallied a 191.900 against MIC opponent UIC (6-4, 1-0 MIC), the Flames countered with a 195.250 to claim the dual meet.
“I am more pleased with today's performance than what we've been doing this season,” Southeast head coach
Kristi Ewasko said. “We got great showings from gymnasts like
Megan Fosnow, Taylor and Emma. Comparing this UIC team to previous years, they are a different team. They are cleaner and hitting a lot more often. It's good to have this type of strong competition in our conference, which should make us stronger.”
Southeast started the afternoon on vault, where it recorded a season-best 48.425.
Margaret O'Neal (9.775),
Emma Garrett (9.700) and
Megan Fosnow (9.800) finished the event strong, recording three-straight scores of 9.700 or higher. Fosnow's mark tied her for third among all competitors in the event. Fosnow competed in the all-around as well, posted a career-high 38.525, the second best total of the afternoon. The Flames opened up their competition with a 48.950 on bars with four gymnasts registering scores of 9.800 or higher.
The Redhawks moved on to bars, where Westrick (9.750) and Fosnow (9.775) anchored a lineup that finished with a 47.825, half a tenth below season best. UIC competed on vault in the second rotation and finished with a 48.900.
Westrick tied for the individual beam crown thanks to her score, which is a season high as well as a career-high. Westrick shared the individual crown while the Redhawks posted a season-high 47.450. The Flames went 48.675 on floor.
In the final rotation, Garrett (9.800) tallied her third score of 9.800 or better on floor this season. The junior tied for the event title as the Redhawks concluded the competition with a 48.200 as a team in the floor exercise. The Flames finished off on beam with a 48.725.
