CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – A busy weekend is in store for the Southeast Missouri gymnastics team as the Redhawks (0-5, 0-1 Midwest Independent) compete in two meets over a three-day span. Southeast hosts MIC foe UIC on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. CT in Houck Field House before traveling to Iowa State on Monday (6:30 p.m. CT).

Last Time Out – Southeast recorded a season-high 48.450 on floor exercise while coming close to doing so on vault (48.000) in the Perfect 10 Challenge last Friday night. Emma Garrett tallied a 9.825 on floor and a 9.700 on vault in the tri-meet that pitted the Redhawks against No. 5 Oklahoma and Iowa State. Taylor Westrick also put together her best performance of the season, scoring 9.800 on balance beam and 9.775 on floor to help Southeast finish third as a team in the competition.

Illinois-Chicago's season average of 193.343 ranks 36th in the country, which would be good enough to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships. News and Notes:

Bring in the Specialist – Junior Emma Garrett has been dynamite for Southeast three meets into the season, posting top-three finishes on both vault and floor in the Redhawks' first three meets. In eight routines this season, Garrett has posted six scores of 9.700 or higher. In the last dual at Illinois State, the Jacksonville, Fla., native scored 9.750 on both vault and floor. Her six scores of 9.700 or better ties Megan Fosnow for most among all Southeast gymnasts and her 28 career routines of such scores ranks second among all active Redhawks. Garrett earned her first career MIC Specialist of the Week award on Feb. 15, after she tallied a 9.825 on floor and a 9.700 on vault in the Perfect 10 Challenge.

Fosnow Starting Strong – Another strong contributor to Southeast's scores in the early going is sophomore Megan Fosnow on vault. The Franklin, Wis., native has gone 9.700 or better on the apparatus in the first three meets, topping out at a 9.800 in the Redhawks' last dual at Illinois State. Fosnow has either shared or won individual titles in the event two times this season. She finished fourth at Michigan State and added a third-place finish on bars as well.

'Taylor'-Made Gymnast – After a slow start to the season, junior Taylor Westrick displayed the form that earned her an individual spot in the NCAA Regional Championships a year ago. In the Perfect 10 Challenge, Westrick scored 9.775 or better on floor and beam, recording a season-best 9.800 on the balance beam and a 9.775 on the floor exercise. Prior to that meet, the Waterford, Wis., native only scored above 9.700 once this season, a 9.750 on beam in the season opener against Northern Illinois.

Floor General – Junior Emma Garrett's mastery on the floor exercise has carried over into the first four meets of the year. Garrett has scored 9.700 or better in each meet, winning the individual crown both twice and finishing in the top three on three occasions. She tied her career high with a 9.850 to claim the event in the season opener against Northern Illinois, boasting the Redhawks' highest individual score of the young season. Against Illinois State on Jan. 21, Garrett tallied a 9.750 to win the outright title once again.
