OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. –
The Southeast Missouri gymnastics team got strong performances on floor and vault as it placed third in the Perfect 10 Challenge on Friday night.

The Redhawks (0-5) scored a season-high 48.450 on floor and posted a 48.000 on vault to finish with a total of 189.600. The fifth-ranked Sooners took the tri-meet with a 197.200 while the Cyclones finished second with a 195.175.

Southeast opened the competition on beam, where it got off to slow start with none of the first three gymnasts scoring higher than 9.0. The Redhawks closed out the event in stellar fashion with Angela Serafini scoring a 9.750 and Taylor Westrick posting a season-best 9.800 to give Southeast a score of 47.025. Westrick's score tied for the seventh best in the competition. OU tallied a 49.275 on vault while ISU scored 48.575 on bars.

The Redhawks picked it up on floor exercise in the second rotation with both Westrick (9.775) and Emma Garrett (9.825) leading the way in their final two routines. Garrett tied for seventh in the event standings. The Sooners built their lead with a 49.125 on bars while the Cyclones scored 48.850 on beam.

Southeast cracked the 48-point mark for the second time this season on vault, counting only one score lower than 9.600. Garrett led the Redhawks in that apparatus with a 9.700. Oklahoma tallied a 49.350 on beam and Iowa State scored 48.650 on floor.

“Overall, we had a lot more positive routines tonight,” Southeast head coach Kristi Ewasko said. “The last half of beam, vault and floor were all much better than before. We still have things to work on, but we did some good things tonight. We'll try to build on the positives as we compete in front of our home fans next weekend.”

The Redhawks finished the meet with a 46.125 on bars with Megan Fosnow's 9.650 score topping the lineup. The Sooners finished with a 49.450 on floor and the Cyclones concluded the meet with a 48.650 on vault.

Serafini and Fosnow each competed in the all-around, posting totals of 37.850 and 37.775, respectively.

Southeast returns home for a dual against Midwest Independent Conference rival Illinois-Chicago on Feb. 18.
