CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. –
Patricia Mack scored a career-high 15 points and recorded her third career double-double, but Morehead State's hot shooting from long range sent the Southeast Missouri State women's basketball team to a 61-57 loss at the Show Me Center on Wednesday night.

The Eagles (4-10, 1-0 Ohio Valley) hit 12 three-pointers to hold off the Redhawks' (3-11, 0-1 OVC) second-half surge.

“We came out a little flat at the beginning,” Southeast head coach Ty Margenthaler said. “We picked it up in the second half and played a lot better. I thought Patricia gave us a great effort off the bench, both scoring and rebounding. We just need to play for a complete 40 minutes and we're still learning how to do that.”

The Eagles opened up a 37-24 lead with 17:17 remaining in the contest after Courtney Lumpkin hit a three-pointer as the shot clock expired.

Southeast got back into the game at the charity stripe, getting MSU into the double bonus at the 14:03 mark. With 12:09 left, Southeast pulled to within 40-36 on a pair of Bailie Roberts free throws

MSU's Courtney Lumpkin hit a three-pointer from the corner on the following possession, making it a seven-point Eagles' lead with 11:39 remaining. She followed that up with a mid-range jumper, upping the lead to 45-36. Lumpkin finished the contest with a game-high 30 points and hit 6-of-10 three-pointers in the contest.

Layups by Bianca Beck and Yelena Rosado trimmed the Redhawks' deficit to five points at 45-40, but Lumpkin scored two consecutive baskets to answer the spurt.

The Redhawks surged again as Bailie Roberts and Allyson Bradshaw hit consecutive three-pointers, cutting the lead to three points. Southeast got a defensive stop and Roberts was fouled grabbing a rebound, which sent her back to the line for two more free throws. The junior drilled both to bring Southeast within 49-48.

Lumpkin drilled another three-pointer to make it 52-48, but Roberts and Bradshaw each split a pair of free throws to bring Southeast back within two points.

Once again, Lumpkin drained a three-pointer on the following possession. However, an offensive rebound and a put back by Patricia Mack brought the Redhawks within three at 55-52.

After a stop, Bianca Beck hit two free throws to make it a one-point game. True to the trend though, Lumpkin drilled another three-pointer on the next MSU possession to make it 58-54 with 2:11 left.

Southeast once again drew to within two points when Beck found Mack for a layup with 49 seconds remaining. The Eagles once again dialed long distance as this time Linda Dixon drained a three-pointer from the wing to extend the Eagles' lead to 61-56 with 40 seconds to play.

A Mack free throw made it a four-point game, but the Redhawks were unable to get any closer.

MSU jumped ahead, 10-4, in the first five minutes of the contest after three-pointers by Allie Turner and Linda Dixon snapped an early 4-4 tie. Following Dixon's trifecta, Bianca Beck scored on consecutive layups to cut the deficit to 10-8 with just over seven minutes gone by.

With 12:10 remaining in the opening stanza, Allyson Bradshaw found Bailie Roberts in the paint, setting up a layup that evened the score at 10 apiece.

After picking up two early fouls, Morehead State brought Ashar Harris, the league's leading rebounder, back into the contest. She promptly made a layup and a free throw to put the Eagles back ahead by a 13-10 margin.

A pair of Beck free throws made it a 13-12 game with 9:04 remaining in the first half, but a Courtney Lumpkin three-pointer upped the MSU lead to four points.

Southeast responded yet again as Patricia Mack made two-straight layups to even the score at 16. The tying bucket came after a steal by Brittany Harriel created a fast break opportunity.

Another three-pointer by Turner put Morehead State back in front and after a turnover, Harris made a layup to give the Eagles a 21-16 advantage with 6:14 to play in the opening frame.

A Dixon three-pointer with 4:03 left on the clock made it 24-18 and Turner drilled another three with 1:40 to go, making it 27-19.

Roberts banked in a jumper and Beck drove to the lane for another layup to cut the deficit back to four points, but an offensive rebound and put back by Harris upped the lead back to six. Morehead State got the ball back with five seconds remaining in the first half, where Courtney Lumpkin hit a step back jumper at the buzzer to send Southeast into the locker room trailing 31-23 at the half.

Mack's outburst was her first double-digit scoring effort since Feb. 2, 2010 when she scored 13 points against SIU Edwardsville. This was the sophomore's third career double-double. The Columbus, Ohio native also recorded four steals.

Roberts tied Mack for the team lead with 15 points while Beck tied a career-high with 13 points. Beck also dished out a game-high five assists.

The Redhawks shot a season-high 40.9 percent from the field while holding the Eagles to 35.5 percent shooting. However, MSU hit 12 of its 32 (37.5 percent) three-point tries compared to Southeast's 2-for-10 (20.0 percent) mark from long range. The Redhawks held a decisive edge in free throw shooting, hitting 19-of-30 (63.3 percent) from the charity stripe against the Eagles' 5-of-10 (50.0 percent) clip.

MSU held a 42-33 advantage in rebounding and both teams committed 18 turnovers.

Southeast will be back in action on New Year's Eve against Murray State. Tipoff on Saturday is at 1 p.m. CT.
