Last Season (Morehead State 85, Southeast 69 – Jan. 13, 2011 in Cape Girardeau, Mo.; Morehead State 89, Southeast 40 – Feb. 12, 2011 in Morehead, Ky.) – Last season's first meeting was a back and forth contest that featured 10 lead changes and five ties.
Katie Norman scored a team-high 16 points while
Bailie Roberts chipped in 14 off the bench. The score was tied at 40 with 14:31 remaining, but MSU outscored Southeast by a 45-29 margin the rest of the way. The Eagles completed the sweep with a dominant second half effort where they outscored the Redhawks, 54-19, in the final 20 minutes of play. Southeast shot only 27.1 percent on the road. The effort was the first setback of a season-ending six game losing skid for the Redhawks.
Katie Norman tied for the team lead with nine points.
Well Traveled Redhawks – Southeast spent the vast majority of its non-conference slate checking into and out of hotels. Ten of the Redhawks' 13 non-conference games were away from the Show Me Center. The season began with a three-game trip at NC State, Saint Louis and Illinois-Chicago. Two home games were sandwiched around Southeast's Thanksgiving trip to UAB for a two-game tournament and the non-league schedule concluded with a three-game tournament at Wright State. The end of the tournament concluded a stretch where Southeast played five of six games away from the Show Me Center.
Heroic Harriel – Junior forward
Brittany Harriel willed the Redhawks to a tight win over Longwood in the finale of the Wright State Holiday Invitational on Dec. 20. The junior poured in 18 points (16 in the second half) and tied a career-high with 13 rebounds for her third career double-double. Harriel made four of Southeast's five field goals in the second half and went 8-of-9 from the free throw line to help secure the 56-52 win. Since scoring only 12 total points in the first three games of the season, Harriel is averaging 9.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game in the last 10 contests. The junior averaged 12.0 points and 8.3 rebounds per game during the Redhawks' three-game run at the Wright State Holiday Invitational from Dec. 18-20.
Evans' Breakthrough – Senior guard
Karley Evans has picked it up offensively after a slow start to the year. The senior has scored in double figures four times and is averaging 9.7 points over her last seven games. This is in stark contrast to the first six games of the year where Evans averaged only 5.7 points per game and never scored more than eight points. Evans helped deliver Southeast's first victory of the year by scoring a career-high 17 points against Arkansas State on Nov. 29. Two games later, the Rock Port, Mo., native led Southeast with 15 points in and dished out three assists in a win over Lindenwood. She also helped balance the Southeast attack with 11 points in its win over Longwood on Dec. 20. The Redhawks are 3-1 when Evans scores in double figures.
Tight Wins – One of the keys for Southeast this season has been to keep contests close to the end. When it accomplishes this, Southeast has been able to eke out some victories. The Redhawks are 2-1 this season in games decided by five points or less, but their record is 1-9 when the final margin is greater than five points.
Injury Report – Southeast will be without the services of junior guard
Katie Norman and redshirt freshman forward
Brooke Taylor this season due to a back and knee injury, respectively. Norman tied for the Redhawks' scoring lead with 8.9 points last season and hit a team-best 31 three-pointers a year ago while Taylor was one of Southeast's most highly regarded recruits entering the 2010-11 campaign.
